I have to say, I'm impressed with what the Cardinals are achieving.
We started the season with our ace pitchers on the DL and a bunch of minor leaguers and relatively no-names in the line-up. I don't think anybody thought the Cardinals would be very good this season. And, I confess, I agrees with that assessment. But, I have to give some of these "no-names" credit. They're getting the job done. Ludwick, Schumaker, and Ankiel are pleasant surprises. Pujols is always good so he doesn't qualify as a "surprise." But, to a large extent, I think our starting pitching has done a very good job. I just hope they can maintain this energy. The National Central Division has gone from worst to best this season. It's going to be a battle. I have a bad feeling, though. It's like when you're dating a REALLY pretty girl, one you can't believe will even give you the time of day, and you just KNOW that, sooner or later, she's going to figure out that she can do much better than you ... so you get dumped. She breaks your heart - even though you knew it was too good to be true all along. David Emerling Memphis, TN |
