Default minor lines, 4/29/08

AAA: Fresno defeated Iowa 4-3

Fresno: CF Clay Timpner: 2 for 4, 3B
Fresno: RF-2B Justin Leone: 1 for 3, HR, BB
Fresno: LF Brian Horwitz: 2 for 4

Fresno: RHP Nick Pereira: 6.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K--1 HR
Fresno: RHP Billy Sadler: 2.0 IP, 1 BB, 1 K
Fresno: LHP Alex Hinshaw: 1.0 IP, 2 K

Timpner and Horwitz each had two of the Grizzlies' eight hits, raising
their respective AVGs to .298 and .304. Leone, the other starting
outfielder, connected for his 7th HR in the 1st inning.

A "quality start" for Pereira improved his ERA to 5.47. He has
allowed 3+ ER in four of his five starts. He had a season-high 5 K,
which helped bring his K/BB ratio above 1.00. His pitch count was
more efficient than normal with just 85 pitches (54 strikes) through
six innings. Sadler has been hard to hit but not necessarily hard to
reach base against as he has 8 H, 11 BB and 19 K in 13.2 IP. Hinshaw
picked up his 2nd save and snapped a streak of three straight
appearances with a walk. For the second straight day, this morning's
Fresno Bee notes that the Grizzlies have only 22 players on their
roster, two below the roster limit, and there remains question who
will start in place of Misch on Friday.

AA: Connecticut lost to Trenton 4-1
(allowing 3 runs in 8th inning to extend losing streak to six games)

Connecticut: 2B Travis Denker: 1 for 3, BB, E
Connecticut: 3B David Maroul: 0 for 3, 2 BB, E

Connecticut: RHP Joe Martinez: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K
Connecticut: RHP Kelvin Pichardo: 0.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB
Connecticut: RHP Ronnie Ray: 2.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 K--1 HR

Denker was the only Defender to reach base twice. He now has a .
194/.322/.278 line through 72 AB. He committed his 5th error, while
Maroul, who continues to struggle to make contact at the plate, made
his 8th error. The Defenders have the lowest team batting average in
the league at .215.

Martinez had his third straight excellent start, including a new
season high with 6 K and new season lows with 4 H and 0 BB. He also
had a 10/2 GO/FO line. Over his last three starts, he has 16 H, 3 BB,
1 ER and 14 K in 17.2 IP. After Pichardo failed to retired any of the
four batters he faced, Ray got out of the bases-loaded, no-outs jam,
but then allowed three runs charged to his own record in the next
inning.

A+: San Jose lost to High Desert 8-5

San Jose: 3B Ryan Rohlinger: 2 for 3, 2B, BB
San Jose: C Pablo Sandoval: 3 for 4, 2B
San Jose: DH Andy D'Alessio: 2 for 4, HR, SO

San Jose: LHP Clayton Tanner: 5.0 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K--1 PO

In the heart of the Giants lineup (batting 3rd through 5th),
Rohlinger, Sandoval and D'Alessio had seven of the Giants' ten hits,
improving their respective AVGs to .244, .439 and .351. D'Alessio
connected for his 3rd HR in the 1st inning.

Clayton had perhaps his least effective start of the year. At least
it was the most baserunners he has allowed in any start. After
beginning the season with 10 H, 2 BB, 0 ER and 14 K in his first three
starts, he has 20 H, 7 BB, 11 ER and 6 K in his last three starts.
Incidentally, only one of his six starts has come at home.

A-: Augusta lost to Charleston 6-3

Augusta: 3B Brock Bond: 2 for 4

Augusta: RHP Oliver Odle: 4.2 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER 1 BB, 1 K--2 HR
Augusta: RHP Daryl Maday: 3.1 IP, 1 BB, 3 K

Bond accounted for two of the GreenJackets' five baserunners. The two
singles improved his AVG to .405.

Odle's ERA rose to 6.00 as he had his second consecutive start
allowing 6 ER. Maday made his seventh relief appearance of the year,
only one of which has been less than two innings, and he lowered his
ERA to 1.29. His peripheral stats have been very good with 10 H, 3 BB
and 21 K in 21.0 IP.
