Can anyone else remember an 8-losses-in-9-games slide
during the 2004 to 2007 era? The last losing season was 2003. That team at least was entertaining because they scored some runs. |

(Between the shaky bullpen and almost total lack of timely hitting (we're getting 'em on, but not getting 'em in) it's been a very frustrating time to be a Padre fan. |

A common theme I am hearing from fellow fans and media is that this is a boring team. That is the truth. When the Giants were here this week, the Padres looked like they lacked drive when they played, especially at the plate. The Giants and their 3 rookies in the lineup looked they wanted to win, showed some character and youthfulness on field. Remember the '04 (and some earlier Padres teams)? Remember the character those teams had? Guys like Sweeny and Nevin, Klesko when he still had some game left? Remember Pay-Lo's? Someone on the bench would ceremoniously remove the helmet from his teammate who just crossed the plate? The Giants may not have a winning record this season, but at least it looks like they are trying, and having a little fun to boot. The Padres don't look like that at all. Who is our clubhose leader? Where is our character and driver? And when was the last time anyone mentioned Giants and youthful in the same sentence??? I thought they were trying to open an AARP branch at AT&T Park??? |

I can't say that I remembered, but thanks to the Internet we don't have to remember things - they lost 12 out of 13, from July 17-31, 2005. Due to the awfulness that was the NL West that year, they were still tied for first at the end of that slide. |

Unfortunately the Padres can't hit and their bull pen is very suspect!! |

I didn't remember that it got THAT bad, but I do remember that it looked for a while like the NL West was going to have a sub-.500 champion. The division did avoid that embarrassment when the Pads finished 82-80. |
