Nice call blue!!!

Credit to home plate umpire Lance Barksdale for getting that play at
the plate right, getting the 7th and tying run in for the Pads. Any
other might have call Adrian Gonzalez out on the throw by Hunter Pence
in right, to catcher JR Towles. Towles never tagged Adrian, and
despite a fine acting job by Towles, Barksdale was right on top of
play and called him save. Cool!!!

The relief pitching has been abysmal this year. Even the guys who have been
stellar in recent years (Bell, Meredith-2006) have been very hittable this
year. Towers needs to get to work ironing this out pronto. Even more than
the spotty offense, the bullpen has been the biggest problem by wasting some
pretty damned good pitching performances (although this wasn't one of
Peavy's better games).

Better yet, he needs to stop reading his own press clippings and assuming he
can assemble a fearsome bullpen from scratch every year. If he had it to do
over again, I'm guessing he'd have given Brocail the $500,000 raise he was
asking for (and which he damn well deserved).

It would be nice if Hensley got his shit together and got back to being the
great middle reliever he was in '05. We could use that right about now.
