Mexico opening night is Friday.Does that mean they are playing the
Mexican national anthem? Go by a beer before it starts because it is LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG!!! Ever hear it at midnight on 1090? I watched the Nascar Mexico 200 on Saturday. Their anthem is quite a spectacle. Flag is unfurled, while a bugler plays, then the anthem is sung. |

It's way less boring than ours. But you're right, it is too damn long. |

So how do they celebrate Mexico Opening Night? $9 tacos made with Spam? Dos Equis for $12? Pinatas for the 7th inning stretch? Sorry if I sound a little cynical, but how many Mexican nationals are really expected to come on Friday who wouldn't be at any other game? How many of them even know about it? Viva Pads ! |

Well, as the only MLB team that plays right next to the Mexican border, the Padres marketing people spent way too many years ignoring that untapped and potentially lucrative market, all the way up until the beginning of the Moores ownership. I don't think Mexico Opening Night is intended to have any particular impact in terms of ticket sales, it's more of a way of just letting our neighbors know that this is their team too and our casa is their casa. PS- Go ahead, somebody make a weak-ass illegal immigrant joke. You know you want to. |
