Eh, I don't think they can/should now. Cust is cheaper, and the A's need pitching more than they need hitting right now. |

The above poster apparently isn't aware that the team that picks up Thomas will only be on the hook for paying Thomas a pro-rated portion of the major league minimum for this year, about $350k. The remaining $6.7 million balance on Thomas' contract will be paid by the Blue Jays. Under the economics of baseball, cost will play almost no role in a team's decision to sign Thomas. The $410,000 that the A's are paying Cust this year is completely irrelevant to A's decision whether to sign Thomas. Whether the A's sign Thomas or not, the A's are bound to pay Cust the $410,000 he is owed (absent a trade of course). Shooty |

I'm not clear though on that 10 million dollar option Thomas had with the Blue Jays, which supposedly kicked in if he had 350 or so plate appearances. If another team signs him and gives him all those PAs, do they have to pick up the option for next year? Personally, I'm against bringing him now due to the disruption. He act kinda like a baby about things in Toronto, and the A's seem to have some chemistry brewing. I assume Thomas would take Mike Sweeney's spot on the roster, and everyone seems to love that guy to pieces... |

But keep stroking yourself nonetheless; it's amusing to a lot of us. |

Rejecting once again an assessment by the above poster, this one being that the A's cannot sign Frank Thomas, the A's have signed Frank Thomas. http://tinyurl.com/53fvz8 $337,000 Shooty |

At least until you learn how to read. |
