In case there was any doubt that Isiah was fired in all but name only, a
team source has said that in his new "role," Isiah is not allowed to have any contact whatsoever with the players. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors/post/Walsh-bans-Thomas-from-having-contact-with-team?urn=nba,78286 I'm almost positive the end game here is that Isiah leaves quietly, citing the desire for more personal time with his family, or some other pressing obligation, in exchange for a healthy (but undisclosed) severance package. =p= |

I think he's a good guy to bounce things off, have a good viewpoint on the basketball part. So there are good things that he can bring to the table." Hmmm, reminds me of what somebody here was saying about what Walsh's opinion of Thomas is... Well, this looks like a good step in terms of who holds the juice cards. I think you're right that he's not long for the club. A clean neutering. |

Cold. Don Chaney style. Who's getting their retirement check now? Thomas remains with the Knicks as an informal adviser to Walsh, without a title or any authority. Walsh dismissed a report that Thomas had been barred from contact with the players. ³The only thing that we agreed to is that Isiah is dealing with me, and nobody is reporting to him,² Walsh said. ³It was never discussed about players and all that.² <http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/23/sports/basketball/23knicks.html> DG |

Walsh doesn't want to hurt the guy any more than he has already hurt himself and will try to make him look like an asset. The fact that nobody reports to Thomas any longer speaks volumes about what he was and has become. He is more or less the idiot son you don't want to embarrass but really want as little to do with the day to day stuff of your business as possible (sounds a certain owner of an NBA franchise, doesn't it? ) |
