I think Joe Torre and his staff need time. It's a rebuilding process with
all of these young players and also Nomar and Jeff Kent may not be playing in '09. Andruw is also working hard to find his swing. Hopefully the ingredients will all come together. There's a reason that some franchises remain losers for decades and it has a lot to do with the attitude on that bench and in that clubhouse. You don't change that overnight. Add to that you have a bunch of young players adjusting to a new manager and a new manager adjusting to an environment almost the opposite of what he had in NY and it's understandable that they're playing out of synch right now. Torre is a good manager and will have no interference from McCourt who had no street cred at all. It may not even come together this season, but I'm confident it will eventually. Having said that, I reserve the right to complain:-) S. > On 4/23/08 12:06 PM, in article > 4d984530-5193-4524-8d5a-1605fbc2dc70@t54g2000hsg.googlegroups.com, "Mike > De > Leon" <lazlo98@earthlink.net> wrote: > >> On Apr 21, 6:24 pm, "Amish" <Am...@yahoo.com> wrote: >>> Is there a way to just dump this guy. >>> >>> What a waste of $, bench space, air >> >> That would require ned and mccourt to admit they don't have a clue of >> how to build a winning team. But it is also a continuing built-in excuse. We changed managers, so everyone has to get used to him. We changed the players, so we need to evaluate them, oops we changed managers again, give him some time, oops we changed this... It is a PR game. When a team wants to win, they stick with whom they got and build. Alston 25 years, LaSorda 20 +? years etc. When you don't want to win, you make massive changes and call it rebuilding. But if you make excuses and call it rebuilding, you folks fork over the money. If they told you the truth, that they don't want to win and are just making a buck, you wouldn't give them your money. And before you say it, I stopped. I no longer own a TV, I didn't buy access the Dodgers via the net. I only listen on radio. |

Granted Ethier wasn't starting, at the start of the season but did start in RF after Kemp went down after running into the RF scoreboard and then platooned with him when he came back. Loney was brought up 2-3 weeks after he asked for a trade and started at first and Marting started the whole way behind the plate. With the exception of JP, AJ and Gonzo, it's essentially the same team. So why did they do so much better last year than this? I'm willing to give torre some time but if the DBacks continue their hot streak regardless of how hot the Dodgers get they'll be out of it. Too, I don't think torre is really all that as far as a manager, he failed at his 3 other stints as an NL manager. Then we've got another idiotic signing in AJ that's almost as bad as the JP signing, granted if the rest were swinging the bat with any consistantsy it wouldn't matter and he could hit 8th. They're playing terribly but it's not because it's a re- building year. > > On 4/23/08 12:06 PM, in article > 4d984530-5193-4524-8d5a-1605fbc2d...@t54g2000hsg.googlegroups.com, "Mike De > > Leon" <lazl...@earthlink.net> wrote: > > On Apr 21, 6:24 pm, "Amish" <Am...@yahoo.com> wrote: > >> Is there a way to just dump this guy. > > >> What a waste of $, bench space, air > > > That would require ned and mccourt to admit they don't have a clue of > > how to build a winning team. You would think something like that would have been reported. I don't know why your so stuck on the idea that he did even though your only source is you think Ima said something like that last year. Secondly...which JP are you talking about? Juan Pierre was on the team last year and wouldn't be an "exception". Third base is new, or was until Nomar came back. The team is basically the same team except for AJ who does suck big time. AG |

Well the Dodgers seem to have the market cornered on overweight non-
producers. |

Too, it wasn't widely reported after all Loney at the time was in the minors and it's not big news, except to die hard fans who follow the minors league and know what he's been doing. Too I already posted where I saw it, look at 'Ethier or Jones', and said he requested the trade around the 5th of April but here's another source, as you can see it wasposted on the 6th. http://umpbump.com/press/how-soon-is-too-soon/ Now frustrated with his inability to make the team, Loney has asked to be traded. This whole thing is just like what happened with Ryan Howard, who tore up the minor leagues for a couple of years before the Phillies finally gave him a chance to play everyday. He was pissed with the Phils for continually failing to put him on the major league squad and asked to be traded. Happy Now? > Secondly...which JP are you talking about? JP was a starter last year, this year he's been replaced by AJ. Haven't you noticed? ; ^) So with that exception and Dewitt starting at 3B and AJ in CF it's the same team, the only thing that has changed is on field management. So what re-building? > > AG |
