LT denies Patriots a rival
By Kevin Acee

Posted: October 8, 2008

The Chargers and Patriots will meet Sunday for the fourth time since January
2007. Going back to October 2005, the last time the Chargers beat New
England, there has been something said and/or done before, during or after
every game that has upset someone on either side. The Patriots are the
winningest team in the league over the past five seasons, the Chargers the
third-winningest.

But LaDainian Tomlinson, who has in the past said a number of things that
have upset the Patriots and their faithful, yesterday denied there is a
rivalry between the two teams. After all, he said, New England has won the
past three times they've played.

"Really and truly, I think that's beyond us right now to call it a rivalry,"
said Tomlinson, who sat out today's practice due to his sprained toe. "One,
because we haven't beaten them, and two, it's just a regular-season game for
us. They're in better shape than we are. So a rivalry? I wouldn't call it a
rivalry. It's just another game on our schedule that happens to be the
Patriots and we need to win bad."
