Dr. Z gives Krieg the edge over Hass.

I loved Krieg -- he was better than Hass when it came to improvising
and throwing the dinks and screen passes -- but I still think Hass is
a better QB overall.

Agreed on the last part. Kreig was never close to what Hass is
today. Granted, Hass wouldn't be anywhere without Holmie, while
Kreig was stuck with Knox. Whatever, Hass is one of the elite
QBs in the NFL today. Kreig was way too inconsistent to ever
get there.

Dr Z wears east-coast blinders. He's always down on the
Seahawks. Here's what he said:

Dave Krieg vs. Matt Hasselbeck
Edge: 1988. Very sorry, but I'm a Krieg man. The way he
worked a game, that meticulous style of his, the accuracy
... people forget how accurate he was. I don't forget. I
don't forget anything, actually.

I don't forget either,.. who owns the NFL record for career
fumbles (149)? I haven't forgot how fucking happy I was when
the 'Hawks finally cut Kreig loose. There was a good reason.

Huh?

I was heart broken the day they cut Krieg loose. Do you recall what
happened the year we cut Dave Krieg loose? I sure do, can you say 2-14?
And what about ole Mudbone, he went on to play for the Chiefs who went 10-6
that season. Dave Krieg still holds the record for most prolific passer for
the Seahawks. I think it might be a bit ridiculous to try and compare the
two QB's. Yes Krieg fumbled the ball a lot, he was born with the
disadvantage of having small hands. Matt Hasslebeck is just a much bigger
guy at 6' 4" compared to Kriegs 6' 1". The two teams were very different
too, Hasslebecks team is loaded with talent and Kriegs team was a group of
so so guys playing with guts and moxie. Those teams of the 80's will always
be the standard for me of the greatness that is My Seattle Seahawks!

Don't even get me started about Knox, he was a coach from a different era.
In my opinion, records aside, Knox is still the greatest coach this team has
ever seen. And Dave Krieg still holds the passing records for the Seahawks.

PS; Heheh I was a young man during the Krieg years and that is when I
became a really huge Seahawks fan. I am sure that folks who came into their
fandom during the 2000's will have different heroes...

Sorry, but Krieg does not own the NFL career fumble record. That
distinction would belong to Warren Moon with 161. Krieg is second with
153, and Brett Favre is third at 147.

I wonder what Krieg could have done behind our offensive line and with some
decent wideouts (not that Largent wasn't decent, he was triple and quadruple
covered most of the time (and still caught passes))

<sarcasm>Yeah, but #1 and #3 get to go to the Hall of Fame, whereas Krieg is
a total
loser unworthy of mention as a great QB.</sarcasm>

Krieg was a lot like Romo is now: He could look like the absolute greatest

These are the linemen we carried for the 1988 season..

G/T Edwin Bailey Height: 6' 4'' Weight: 270
C Blair Bush Height: 6-3 Weight: 275
G/C/T Stan Eisenhooth Height: 6' 5'' Weight: 275
C Grant Feasel Height: 6' 8'' Weight: 267
T Ron Mattes Height: 6' 6'' Weight: 304
G/T Bryan Millard Height: 6' 5'' Weight: 283
G/T Alvin Powell Height: 6' 5'' Weight: 294
TE John Spagnola Height: 6' 4'' Weight: 241
TE Mike Tice Height: 6-7 Weight: 253 lbs

Compare that to our current OL, or to teams like the Bears or Redskins of
the time..
3 guys over 280, 2 guys over 290, and only one over 300?? barely? Krieg
spent the
bulk of his career running for his life...

btw... next time some blow-hard fan of another team comes in here to brag up
what
his gang of glorious losers has done, point out the following stat:

Seattle is the only team to have played in both the AFC and NFC Championship
Games

Doh! You're right about that. Though I think Moon played
longer. I can't check that because Kreig is mysteriously absent
from the list of historical players.

I still don't think Kreig is comparable to Moon, Favre or Hass.

Kreig started more games than Hass. For my money, not only is
Hass a better QB, but so were Moon and Zorn. That puts Kreig at
4th. We agree to disagree.

Kreig had Largent, Curt Warner, John L. Williams (remember all
the years he was the leading receiver?), Brian Blades, Darryl
Turner, and Mike Tice (who Knox foolishly traded for Byron
Franklin). Those were some good weapons.

As far as Knox, i have him third -- after Holmie and Patera,
ahead of Erickson and Flores. So there. Knox had a good first
season, but it was downhill from there.

I became a fan a couple years after the 'hawks started, back in
the Patera/Zorn era. Not as rabid as now, tho. Sure the 'hawks
lost a lot of games as an expansion team, but they were always
fun to watch and Patera always had something unexpected.

Krieg and Moon both played for 17 seasons. Krieg had a career 58.5%
completion percentage, Moon 58.4%. Krieg threw for 38,147 yards, Moon for
49,325 (Keep in mind Krieg played 12 seasons in the Ground Chuch offense).
Kriegs career QB rating was 81.5 and Moons was 80.9. These two QB's had
very similar careers, Dave Krieg deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

Someone once said something like: "Krieg is the guy you want under
center when you are down by a TD, but the one you want on the bench
when you are up by a TD".

I don't have the quote exactly right, but that was always the essence
of watching Krieg and the Hawks in those days, there wasn't a deficit
they couldn't overcome and a lead they couldn't blow.

Please don't use the term great when describing the Seacucumbers, it's
embarrassing. They've never been 'great' and likely never will be based on
their ownership's lack of comittment to building a winning organization They
hire has-been coaches and seem unwilling to bring in a franchise
quarterback. Perhaps you'll wake up to the facts after watching them get
stomped by the Giants today.

Hass will break that record next year.

Krieg was a good QB, but had some glaring weaknesses and tended to be
a hot and cold QB. Hass is more consistent.
