So if I was to drive up to the game and purchase tickets from these guys I
normally see hanging out in front of Safeco Field, would I end up being
seriously ripped off, or would I probably end up paying a reasonable price?

About ten years ago, I wrote a "Ticket Scalping 101" post. The prices have
changed but the basics are still the same.

For the right-wingers out there, it's the ultimate free market economy.

Heya Curt, great info. But there is one twist to worry about these days.
With modern tickets equipped with barcodes, if someone has their tickets
stolen and can prove they are the legal owner the box office will issue new
tickets. The original ticket will have it's barcode invalidated. I have
spoken to people that have had this happen to them. I still think the
average scalper has good tickets for sale. Look for a guy that looks like
he is there every weekend. I suspect they will be less likely to try and
rip you off, or look for someone who is selling a spare ticket next to where
they sit. If you walk in with the seller there is much less of a chance of
getting ripped off.

This article is about baseball but still valid.
