Me too. The bullpen looked shaky at the end but the boys took advantage of
mistakes without making their own. A good sign.

I'm hoping Ned is watching this close and is starting to see what
closers may be out there for next season.
Casey Blake deserves a shot at third base next year, DeWitt at second,
Furcal and Loney in their fixed spots.
Add an outfielder not named Manny and a couple guys in the rotation
and I may admit I'm wrong about next season's suspected nose dive.
For this season, it's ALL good right now.
I think the Dodgers have had so much success developing their own closers
out of nowhere (Gagne, Saito) that they will develop one. I didn't
particulary despise Shaw and Worrell as much as others, but high priced
closers really didn't provide a benefit. There is only so many ways to
slice up $120-$130 million over 25 players, and I can't see them paying for
one with all the needs they have, and all the sunk costs too.
It will probably be Broxton to lose. Beimel is going to be a free agent too.
But too much baseball left to think too much about this!

I would re-sign Maddux if for no other reason then to let him mentor the
young pitchers.

Nah, he took a big step towards being toast this season. I expect him
to retire.
Now, in the unlikely case that the Dodgers were to be looking for a
new pitching coach, I could see him as a very viable candidate, if he
wanted to actually work instead of spending the rest of his life on
various golf courses.

Agreed on the last point (too much baseball), but I think Broxy, in
the time Saito has been down, has done more harm than good to his
closing status. If Sammy's last few outings were proof that he's not
back from injury and that applications are open, Johnny's performance
during the eight game losing streak and the wildness on his heater
leave way too much to be desired.
