View Full Version : From bad to...another flavor of bad

=====
ST. LOUIS -- After experiencing the wild highs and lows of the Mike Martz
years, the winless St. Louis Rams opted for cool, calm, reserved Scott
Linehan as their next coach.
On Monday, they admitted their mistake and fired Linehan after four
consecutive lopsided losses to open the season. Defensive coordinator Jim
Haslett, a fiery type and polar opposite in terms of demeanor, was hired as
interim coach, given the unenviable task of trying to revive a franchise
that has become an NFL doormat.
The Rams have lost 17 of their last 20 games, most of them routs. But no
matter how dire the situation appears, Haslett said it'll never be as bad as
in his final season as head coach of the New Orleans Saints in 2005 in the
aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
=====
I don't usually look back before realignment in 2002, but it's my
understanding that Haslett hasn't beaten the Seahawks at anything since that
time...and I'm including roshambo. It's too much to expect he'll land the
job permanently, but we should get one more free win from the Rams at least
this season - we'll see who gets the job next season.

Haslett's Rams defense is the worst in the league. I really can't see
him getting the permanent job....then again, we *are* talking about the
Rams.

He's an experienced head coach, which is pretty much all that's
required of an interim hire. He'll fill out the lineup card and
make sure the coaches show up on gameday. Good enough.

Something I just learned this past week:
Linehan was quarterback for Idaho in the 1980s. New Raiders coach Tom
Cable was a guard on that team. Who was the head coach? Dennis
Erickson.
Three future NFL head coaches on one team!
