Nice ones, Mike, very nice.
Just look at that four scooting past that windsurfer - the guy hasn't a
chance!

Excellent, Mike, thanks for sharing.
The singles/doubles looked like same design or manufacturer, though some
boats wood. Is that a rule, or a local builder? I've never seen over
here
a wide beam with narrower gunwhale construction.
Gig style team boats required?

Those are boats used on the sea, very popular time ago on sea clubs,
the manufacturing of the wooden marvellous boats stopped three years
ago in favour of cheaper and easier to maintain plastic boats.
Weights and dimensions limits are coded by the federation, single for
example has to be over 25kgs, mine is 34. Sweep boats called "Jole"
are spectacular, no outrigging, rowers seat alternated on sides. Many
of these wooden boats are pieces of rowing history for each club.
The sea national champs is a big event at the end of the season, where
many national team rowers take part, and dive themselves in the hard
fight, Gilardoni didn't do the 4+ final this year, 10 times world
champ!

length/beam of the single?

david.henderson@aea.be 10-01-2008, 08:40 PM We have a wooden single just like the first pic, made by Dossunet in,
we reckon, the 1920s. It was restored a couple of years ago by
someone who tried (not unsuccessfully) to make it look like one of
Carl's.
We also have a yole 4+, as you describe with no riggers and offset
seats. It's a relatively recent boat, by Salani I think, and it can
really motor with a heavy crew aboard.
There's a big race in yole 4s and 8s in Lisbon in mid November, they
are offering to lend boats and provide accommodation for foreign
entries if you're interested. Don't have the URL but the organising
club is ANL.

Yes Salani was the builder of the last wooden jole, three years ago.
Good to know they are used in your country too.
