I noticed that yesterday's win was #91. I wondered afterwards (now
that I'm no longer wondering about the playoffs) how this compared to
other Phillies' seasons since the Phils had been stuck in the upper
80s for the last few seasons.

The Phillies have won 90+ games 11 times in 126 years.

In 1976 and 1977, they won 101 games. In 1993, they won 97. In the
infamous 1964 season, they won 92. They won 91 in 1916, 1950, and
1980. They won 90 in 1915, 1978, and 1983.

So, there only 4 seasons when the team won more than their current 91.

(The Angels, with a win today, would hit 100 wins, which hasn't
happened since St. Louis won 100 in 2005.)

Is this somehow a cyclical reference that in 100+ years and 10,000 losses
the Phillies have only 1 World Series Championship?

If not, than it should be.

You know, if nothing else, we should win this one for Pat Gillick. I think
he *gets* it. <g>

Everything is a cyclical reference to that. But looking at some of
the WS winners, there appears to be no relation to regular season wins
and post-season performance. Just ask the Seattle team that won 116
RS games.

I take nothing for granted. However, someday I will get to celebrate
again. Whether it's the Flyers, Eagles, or Phillies....

If not you, perhaps your offspring. Perhaps. Maybe.
