How do they determine which teams play each other in the playoffs? I thought
the WC team played the team with the best record? But if they did it just on
that, the Cubs and Brewers would be playing.

The WC team plays the divisional winner with the best record - unless
they're in the same division. In that case the divisional winner with
the second best record gets the WC team.
