View Full Version : How Can That Be A Knockout? Mosley-Mayorga
jamalsbro@gmail.com 09-28-2008, 07:00 PM Mayorga went down, the bell rang and the ref called the fight.
How can the be ruled a KO if the bell rang ending the round and the
fight?
Is this an example of the rule "a fighter cannot be saved by the
bell in any round including the final round"??

Yes! However, if you notice the referee ruled to stop the fight
because the fighter was down and showed little evidense of getting up.
The fight was officially ended at 2:59 of the 12th round. Had the
referee started a count, it still would have been called a KO. Either
way, Mayorga was not getting up. He raised his head the moment he hit
the deck but he layed back and regeree could see that Mayorga wasn't
about to jump up anytime soon.
That final left hook was a beaut!

Oh cripes. We went nuts when that happened as it was so close to going to a
decision with one judge ahead for Mayorga. But it was a great finish and
soon as Shane realized that Mayorga's legs were going with 30 seconds left in
the fight he just went for it. Wild stuff. I can't remember the last time
we all screamed and shouted. OK, I can. Lewis/Tyson but this one was
different. One freaking second left and it's over. And a free TV fight even
for us Canadians. Go figure???

Original poster has a good point; a fighter should still be saved by
the bell.
Great win for SSM, though.
