View Full Version : Mosley / Mayorga
STRATEGY 09-28-2008, 06:23 PM Wow, that end almost seemed scripted. Not saying it was, but without
the ending it would be hard to justify Shane getting another title
shot with just a 'decent' win instead of a spectacular one.
Mayorga imressed me, he really took Shane out of his rhythm/balance
and inticed him to fight instead of box a lot of the time, Shane
charging in crazy like a raging bull at times. That said, talent won
out through most of the rounds. I gave Mayorga a bit more credit that
most of the announcers (except for Manny), I thought had Mayorga won
11 and 12, he might've eked out a draw or even a controversion SD
win. But it wasn't to be, Shane showed too much heart at the end.
Had Mayorga fought Trinidad in this manner, he might've won.
Anyway, I don't know if I want to see Shane vs. Margarito, but I
wouldn't mind Shane/Cotto II, Shane/Forrst III, or even Shane/Judah.
Can Shane possibly make 140 again? if so, I think he would mop the
flool with Hatton. It would be a good ooke for Shane to be a legit
Ring champion at this stage in his career and would likely surpass ODH
in career accomplishments (if he hans't already)
I also think Shane/Oscar III would be great, and a total toss-up
---------------------------------------
In other news, I am going against the RSb grain and taking Pacman over
Oscar, possibly by KO.
PBF should come out and fight the winner.
If Manny loses he should fight JMM for 135 supremacy, but i reckon he
would try to fight Hatton instead (for more money and less risk, IMO)

It was an exciting fight. Has any other fight finished that close to the
end of the last round? I mean, one second left!!!

And what we watching was a masterful encouragment and direct of Jack
Mosley. He was able to get his son, a rather intelligent man in my
opinion, to relax and work on his timing and speed and be patient.
It worked!
The Mosely factor is based on family.

While Mosley deserves props for his last-second stoppage, let's
remember that he did very little from rounds 7 through 11.
In other words his age is starting to show.

Shane's also calling out Margarito and Mayweather; hopefully for his
sake they don't answer.

Yes, I do understand the pace of Shane Mosely's rounds during the
fight. and now can you tell me who won the bout and how it was won?

That fight was stopped by Richard Steele, a referee known for
protecting fighters to the utmost, with 2 seconds left in the fight.
Taylor was ahead on the scorecards at the time.

Cotto answered and Mosley answered back. Mayweather certainly is not going
to put a whooping on Shane. Mayweather might outpoint Mosley, but it
certainly, IMO, will not be an ass-kicking.

Steele should have been known as a referee with poor judgment on when to
stop a fight. If you want to see an example of Steele having let a fight go
on way too long, check out Bruce Curry's beating at the fists of Billy
Costello. Curry is lucky that Costello did not kill him and Steele let the
fight go on, as ringside commentator Gil Clancy called for a stoppage.
IIRC, Clancy asked, "What is Richard Steele waiting for?"
Richard Steele was an otherwise top referee. He just showed poor judgment
when it came time to either stop a fight or allow it to continue.

A whole lot of boxing pundits agree with you, Ivan.
As with Steele, using faulty decision making, however,
there are also many other referees who at one time or
another used poor judgement.

Mosley looked fine against Cotto but that was a year ago.

If Mosley fought in spurts the way he did against Mayorga it would be
an easy decision for Floyd.
To be fair it could be that Shane just had an off night but I think
he's turning into the welterweight Chris Byrd.

It seems that Donn just revealed that TSC is dressing as Ivan Drago for
Trick or Treat. And TSC, being a method actor, is simply getting into
character early.
It all makes sense if you remember his Beyoncé outfit from last year.

Unfortunately, I don't remember that outfit. (Lucky if I can
remember things just 2 days ago, never mind 13 months!) And I
didn't want to "accuse" Donn of having Parkinson's Syndrome,
too many shots to the head, etc. I figured it was just a senior

Uhhh Strategy,
Mosley outclassed Mayorga the entire fight. What were you watching.
The judges cards (118-109, 118-109 & 116-111). ..., H. Lederman, all
had Mosley big. Shane is not a boxer, He has weak jab. He is a
counter puncher who relies on speed and combos, and heart. It's a
joke that you state that, " he really took Shane out of his rhythm/
balance and inticed him to fight instead of box a lot of the time".
Mosley outclassed him and then KO'd him for good measure. SSM should
fight Cotto, then Margarito if he wins.

Actually, one judge had Mayorga up by a point going into the 12th and
the others had Mosley by one and five point margins.

A counter puncher is not a classic boxer. I was sorry to expect that
you would know better. James Toney is counter puncher. Ali is a
classic boxer. I hope I simplified it for you. BTW: Based on the
scores it is impossible that Mayorga was up on any one's score cards,
except maybe yours.

as you are.
>I hope I simplified it for you.<
You simplified it as only a simpleton can. As Albert Einstein said (Google
him), "Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler."
>BTW: Based on the
scores it is impossible that Mayorga was up on any one's score cards, except
maybe yours.<
Based upon your statement, one judge did the "impossible". But then, it
wouldn't be "impossible" if one judge did it, which would make your
statement incorrect (no surprise there). Simple, eh?
From ESPN.com:
"Mosley led by one point on judge Nelson Vasquez's scorecard and five on
Tony Crebs' card entering the 12th round. Mayorga had a one-point lead on
judge Pat Russell's card."

I don't know where you got your bogus scores from (118-109 twice ,
116-111) but the real scores are all over the net.
Here's a link to go along w/the one Sanity gave you.
