Now, that's nice. Interesting though, as he's not hall of fame
material, why would he sign a 1-day contract with the Giants.

I was at the Giants Marlins game in Fla, when Vizquel broke the record for
games at ss, in the beginning of that game, the giants saw the fish, do the
same exact thing for Jeff Conine.

But he's not HOF material, so why was it important for him to retire as a
Giant? There must be a ton of guys who weren't that good but played many
years as a Giant. Are the Giants gonna do the one-day contract for everyone
of them?

I think it's because 1) JT was a fan favorite (I was one of his fans too; I
love defense), and 2) another marketing gimmick to sell more tix. They
couldn't even sellout a Dodgers series in Fan Appreciation weekend, with
Cain on the mound. But I guess 38K is pretty good these days.

If we're at the end of a losing season, why not?

Oh I wasn't against it; I was for it 100% (as I noted, I'm a JT fan). I was
just pointing it out (actually, giantsforever pointed it out first) that it
is a little unusual to do this for a player of Snow's caliber. Normally
you'd see this for the likes of a Montana, Rice, or Lott; not a Snow.

Hmm... come to think of it, did they ever do this for Will Clark? Not that
I know of.. Clark's not a HOFer either, but at least he was a better player
than Snow. Matt Williams? Will they do it for Jeff Kent? (Hahaha)

Because the Giants always accorded him more credit than he deserved for
the team being good. Plus, he's apparently a really good guy.

How about Matt Williams and Will Clark?

They weren't here for a long time under Baer and Magowan. Consequently,
they're less important.
