View Full Version : Lilncecum losses ERA title

Johann Santana with a shutout today nailed down the ERA title. Lincecum had
at least 4 or 5 runs against his era that were quite questionable. In the
last game an error by Aurillia which allowed 2 unearned runs was reversed,
and Lincecum after the game was charged with 2 additional earned runs. In
the previous 3-2 loss, a hard hit fly ball that should have been caught by a
regular left fielder was misplayed by Eugenio Velez, and cost Lincecum 2
earned runs, no error was charged. And of course, the phantom balk was an
earned run. Both Lincecum and Santana were victims of being taken out,
and watching their runners come in from their respective relief cores.
Lincecum no longer leads in ERA and cannot overtake Santana unless he tosses
a 16 inning Juan Marichal like shutout. If he losses his last game he will
be tied with several others at 17-6, if he wins he will be 18-5, putting him
no better than second place in wins. He could be best winning percentage
and most strikeouts, while doing it for a crappy hitting team. Santana may
steal away some MVP votes, due to his late surge and his N.Y. geography.

Well, he'll just have to pitch a perfect, 20K game.......

And Lincecum has the f**king Giants management to thank, pushing him so hard
near the end of the season. His ERA was 2.43 two starts ago, which Santana
didn't match. I think the Cy Young was a lock with the ERA title, strikeout
title, and a 17-3 record on a no-offense shitty team. Now he has 2 straight
losses, ballooned ERA, and a tired arm which can make it 3 straight losses.
Like I said before, he has more to lose than to gain by being pushed so hard
to try for the stupid 20 wins which was highly unlikely to reach anyway.

Anybody still think the 138 pitch game didn't matter? He hasn't won a game
since. And of course bowling nights didn't help either. The majority of
his losses came on Tuesdays.

If Lincecum doesn't win the Cy Young, he should send a personal thank you
note to Giants management (and another one to Wayne).

13K, 7 innings should put him over the top with Webb slacking on his
last start, Although there still is Santana, now, with the NY
votes...........

Heard KNBR interviewing someone who has a vote on the NL Cy Young this
morning. According to him, Webb is only a distance 3rd on his list. It's
either Lincecum or Santana, and it's a really tough choice for him. He
hasn't decided yet (that was before today's game).

I guess someone agrees with me; Webb doesn't deserve it. Not this year.
Top 3 is still good though.

It'd be so sweet if the bums needed today's game. Still an impressive
performance though.

Hey Cy Young voters, remember that Santana has the 2nd best offense behind
him; Lincecum has the 2nd worst. I hope that's a factor. And most
importantly, Santana doesn't need to deal with the bowling jinx. Huge
factor!
