Somebody (Hank C.) posted earlier that Pujols can't possibly be the MVP
because Howard is on a division winner. I guess we can give *all* the
credit for the Phils winning, and bow down to Howard, no matter how good the
Phil's bullpen is compared to the Cardinals in not LOSING 30+ late-inning
games.
IOW, conveniently blame Pujols for the crappy bullpen that blows
one-game-after-another as the reason why this team didn't win the NL
Central?
Yeah, real good baseball logic, right, Hank C.!

That's not what he said. Learn to read, retard.

You just might be the stupidest fucking idiot to ever walk the earth,
Lieberman. Has Mrs. Pujols gotten a restraining order against you
yet?

A bad bullpen can pad the team's offensive stats, as shown by the 1998
and 1999 seasons in which McGwire got lots of extra HR, RBI, etc,
after the bullpen blew leads and McGwire got extra at-bats in the
bottom of the 9th and in extra innings. The bullpen was bad in 2000
also. Unfortunately, many "fans" rooted for the Cards to blow leads
so McGwire would get to the plate again.
It would be interesting to see how many extra plate appearances Pujols
got as a result of the bullpen blowing leads. Because of the blown
save in the game you mention, Pujols got to improve his OBP and OPS by
walking in the bottom of the 9th.
The people who vote for MVP should take into account how the player
helped the team succeed. Pujols happened to help the team with his
extra walk last night, but the voters are probably more focused on
batting average, HR, and RBI.
Literally speaking, the number of blown saves by the Cardinal bullpen
is significantly higher because of Pujols. The reason: without
Pujols, we would not have had the leads for the bullpen to blow! For
example, in the game you mention, we were up 6-4 before Franklin stunk
up the joint. Without Pujols, we'd tied or worse, with no save
opportunity.
