Howard did *not* miss 13 G on the DL, as Pujols did.

You can't put the blame on Pujols for the sickening
THIRTY-ONE bullpen LOSS disasters! [tied with Balt--AL; second only to S.D.
Padres with 32]
The Phillies wouldn't have made it to first place in the
first place without a decent BULLPEN. Should you give Howard credit for the
Phillies' bullpen? I think not.

No credit to Howard for the Phils bullpen.
My guess is he'll get credit for playing in all 162 games and leading
the league in taters and rbi...

Then he should also get "credit" for striking out almost 200 times
(again!), while batting a measly .250 (after yesterday's game).
Has any player ever won the MVP batting at or below .250?
The only reason Howard gets those high raw numbers is his team has
more great hitters around him than just him alone, so they bat-around more
often and he gets more chances.
Howard has 609 ABs (91 more than Pujols after yesterday's games),
so he has that many more chances. Add in the W difference with Pujols at
103 and Howard at only 81, there's another 22 opportunities Pujols gives up
in Howard's favor.
Pujols .357/.462/.649 36 (now 37) HR 114 RBI
Howard .250/.338/.542 48 HR 146 RBI
Pujols beats him by 107 pts. in the SLG; the same 107 in the BA and
a whopping 124 pts. in the OBP. And you want to give the MVP to someone
just because he gets 113 more chances to hit while then hitting only 12 more
HRs (48 to 36) out of those 113 chances?
If Pujols' team had Burrell, Utley, and Rollins in the lineup
around him instead of who he has had (with little protection), wouldn't you
think Pujols' raw HR/RBI numbers would be as high as the 48/146 Howard
has--if not higher?
Give me a break and wake up to reality on who is by far the Most
Valuable to his team in a stronger division to keep them in the division
race until just two weeks ago compared to the other weaker division with
just two teams in the fight!

Not sure how this folows... the drop-off from Howard in both hr and
rbi to Utley, Burrell and Werth is much more dramatic than Pujols to
Ludwick, Glaus and Ankiel...

Really? How do the teams compare in total ABs?

I think you are confusing whom I 'want to give' the MVP to with who I
think will win the vote ;)

Dave S 09-29-2008, 03:40 AM Only an opinion, but I don't think Howard is even the MVP of his own
team.

Utley?

If he is, it's only because of an impressive September he had. But,
the Phillies made the playoff and that's all it takes for some of the
voters. I think the more knowledgable ones though will understand
that Pujols really helped carry this team and were in contention
because of it for most of the year. Another amazing season by the
best player in baseball. Pujols deserves it.
