Hey Greg... how ya been?
The lead will be .5 if the Mets hold on and the Phils fail to score a
TD. The Cubs tied it, but Delgado will probably find a way to hit
another one out.
The big thing in the Phils favor obviously is that the Mets play the
Brewers this weekend. That automatically lowers the magic number, so
hopefully they hang on.
Two poor outings from Brett now... each similar in scope. All of the
sudden he isn't locating his fastball.

Yeah, my bad. I had this chat tonight and the guy swore it was the
brewers. I didn't think that was right...

Bzzzt!
Phils lucked out big time -- Mets could not score lead-off
triple in the 9th, Cubs score 3 in the 10th. Whew.

MarkMN 09-25-2008, 05:09 AM What a meltdown.
At one time the Mets had a 5-1 lead.
In the 7th had runners 1st & 3rd no one out = NO runs.
In the 8th had runners 2nd & 3rd no one out
Delgado scord on a bases loaded walk! to tie the game.
In the 9th had lead off triple = NO runs.
Now that is sad.

Dude, the Phillies are 20x more important to me than the Flyers. You
have no idea how I hurt for this team. One of these years we have to
win something... god, please!
Last night was a good break, but the Cubs just blew a 3 run lead and
its tied in the 9th. If the Mets lose tonight we are looking good.
Cubs got a man on 2nd and nobody down in the 9th now...

Yeah, I know you're more into the Phils. You're just the opposite of
me. I used to be huge into baseball and followed this team very close
until the strike and I kinda fell off and got totally back on the
hockey bandwaggon. I like this team, just wish they were deeper in
pitching.
Fuckin Cubbies blew it tonight. I was kinda pullin for them if the
Phils couldn't get it done for the WS, but fuck them now.
I hope that fuckin curse lasts another 100 years.

I am still trying to figure out how a dude from Western Canada is so
into all of the Philly teams! You gotta let me in on that sometime.

It would have been nice to see the Cubs play a few major leaguers, but
what can you do? Phils still in control, but its tenuous.
In all seriousness, I am nervous as hell. The Cubs don't care so maybe
Milwaukee sweeps. Then again, they don't have Sabathia and Chicago
won't want to hit October in a slump. The Marlins will play hard
against NY for sure, but the Mets have to be feeling good about
themselves right now. The Phils get the "easy" series, but the Nats
always play us tough and we need to pitch Blanton tonight. I cannot
see the Phils sweeping Washington.
Then you have the weather. God forbid you get rain delays or
cancellations followed by doubleheaders. That can f everything up.
Bottom line -- this is Philly. Bad shit finds us. I expect nothing
good but, if it happens, I will party like its 1999.

Yes, you and Prince Rogers Nelson, ahem.
If you have any faith, any, in the Phillies, it has to be in
1) them beating the Nats
2) the Nats rolling over
Otherwise black is white, night is day, that sort of thing.

It was all about timing and jumping on the bandwaggon.
I got into hockey as a kid when I was about 5. That's when the Flyers
won their first cup and I just loved watching Clarke. At 6 years old
my bedroom was plastered with posters of the Broad Street Bullies.
I didn't get into baseball till I was 10 or 11. I played third base in
my first few years so you can guess where that's going. I just loved
watching Schmidt hit and play 3rd. I wasn't so much into the team at
first as I was into watching him. But when they won the world series I
was hooked.
As for Football, had the Eagles won the Super Bowl in 1980 I probably
would have been an Eagles fan too. That Super Bowl is the first NFL
game I had sat down and watched. The next year I started watching
regularly and fell in love with my all time hero Joe Montana otherwise
know as God.
I've forever been totally loyal to all those teams.
I love hockey, but I think football is my favorite "season." Every
game is so important and playing fantasy football is a blast. I've
gone to SF to watch a game, but have not made the cross continent
treck to catch a Flyers game (easier to get the wife to SF than
Philly). In time I plan to get out there for a week and catch 2 or 3
games. If I could turn back time the one thing I would do is get out
there and catch some games back in the Spectrum, especially a playoff
game. I have few regrets in life, that is near the top of the list.
Phils win.
Mets down 5 going to the bottom of the eighth.
Do the Phils own the tiebreaker??

The Phillies had a losing record against the Mets this year. So, no, I think
is the answer to your question.
But, Beastfish posted, likely correctly might I add, that the phils were
clearly a sub .500 team when playing other teams with a plus .500 record. I
wonder how that has worked out now that they have all but sewn up the
division and look to be +20 games *over* .500?

No, but if it gets to a tiebreaker (as opposed to deciding it on the field)
the Phillies will be in anyway.
Here are your tie scenarios. The only way to get the Phillies into a tie is
if the Phillies lose their last two and the Mets win their last two--then it
all depends on what the Brewers do:
--Brewers win two: Brewers are the wild-card, Phillies and Mets have a one-
game playoff for the East at Philadelphia on Monday.
--Brewers win one, lose one: Three-way tie. Phillies and Mets have a one-game
playoff for the East at Philadelphia on Monday; winner is in the post-season,
loser hosts the Brewers in a one-game playoff for the wild card on Tuesday.
--Brewers lose two: Brewers are out of the post-season, Mets and Phillies are
both in. The tiebreaker is the season series between the two teams, which the
Mets won, so the Mets are considered the East champions and the Phillies are
the wild card.

If a tiebreaker matters now, I will probably develop a drinking
problem by Monday!!!

Isn't that comparable to saying the US economy could be in trouble if
Wachovia bank is the next to collapse :-)

The Mets announcers said last night that if the Mets and Phiilies tie, the
Mets get the division on the head to head wins.
