I mean off the bench of course. Just like this year. Sandoval will
start.

My thoughts: get him on the plane out of Casablanca. Where we have to go
he can't follow, and what we've got to do he can't be any part of. We'll
always have 2001 and the really good NLCS he had against St. Louis in
2002.

I would not call what Richie has done this year exactly shitty. You
got a bench player lined up for next year with his numbers? Please
tell who it is.

Not sure why we would want Rich back.

If you expect the Giants to contend, then Rich is certainly a useful
guy to pinch hit or give one of your regulars a day off.
If you don't expect to contend then why would you resign Rich?
-He is not cheap at $4.5million
-At 38 next year, he is more likely to be injured than someone
younger.
-At 38, his is more likely to suffer a significant decline in
performance than someone younger.

I don't expect the Giants to contend next year. Even if they do, the
Giants should be able to find someone younger and cheaper to fill the
utility role.

I would say the odds are strong you could get Bowker to do his job next
year as well or better for a fraction of Aurilia's cost. Aurilia will
only continue to get worse, while Bowker will likely get better.

..757 OPS for a backup 1B is not good.

A couple of weeks late but I appreciate your humour here, Rad Doc,
especially with "Casablanca" having been on TV just last night.

It doesn't take much to see that the problems of Giants fans don't
amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world.

So let's start the discussion of the offseason roster moves. Who has got
to go, besides Richie?

75% of the bullpen and Velez.

Taschner, Hennessey, and Correia -- I agree it's time for them to ply
their trade in other organizations. And Walker, who has been around the
block before, needs to have another go.

Anybody else in there on your list? What about Yabu? Does he come back
for another season? And speaking of him, happy 40th birthday, Mr. Yabu.

> and Velez.

I don't see a role for Velez next year either. I still think they'll
sign a veteran middle infielder, put Burriss in the other middle infield
spot, and give Frandsen the inside track on the 300 AB utility IF/OF
job. That would leave another roster spot for an infielder who can play
short and maybe provide some late-inning speed on the basepaths. Velez
doesn't have the right mix of skills.

I don't trust Walker anymore that I do the rest of your list. He's had
more than his fair share of chances. Okay, spring training is make or
break for him.

Another hit or miss bullpen special. Outside of Wilson, there's no
reasonable consistency in the bullpen, especially when they get buried
on the lead. It's as if, once they are down, the bullpen comes in to
bury them further.

I'm all for Burriss and Frandsen back on the infield, especially
Frandsen. Give Frandsen a start and see what he can do with it. Until
he had his first injury, he was hitting well and he wasn't generating
a bag full of errors like Velez.

I admire Velez's speed, but he just can't field the infield or the
outfield. He's a liability even on the basepaths. No head for the
game it seems. Most players learn from thier mistakes, Velez does not
seem so inclined.

Dave Roberts. But, he won't.

Vizquel, and he will.
