"...Toto...I don't think we're in Kansas anymore..."
I have been a baseball fan since I was about 7-8 years old...Growing up in
Pinellas Co. we never really had a "home team" I liked all the teams that
trained in Pinellas and was also a big Braves fan...
I held season tickets to the "D" Rays for the first 4 years
I spent a lot of time in NE GA during the early 90's and I got fully tied up
in the Braves success but until now I have never had a "home team" that was
in contention and it's a whole new feeling...(never had any respect for the
marlins org.)...
I'll tell you...just watching these games this month is so exciting...I am
afraid I am not going to know how to act (or keep my heart in my chest) when
the playoffs get started...
Can you even imagine our Rays in the ALCS ?...but even if they don't advance
that far...it is such a great feeling knowing how young the team is (and
without any high profile prima donnas) how they will be back even better
and stronger (years) down the road..
September and October have always been the best months for sports fans..but
this year is special for Rays fans...
I remember in '91' you could not drive 250 miles in any direction from
Atlanta and not see a "Tomahawk" in just about every front yard or business
window... Not sure if the "cowbell" will be the Rays "item of distinction"
but it would be nice to see that same type of atmosphere overtake the Tampa
Bay area soon!
GO RAYS...
