We have been there. Vinny game 1 1999

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ms-bradyoutforyear090708&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is expected to miss the rest
of the 2008 season with what two sources described as a severe injury to
his left knee, suffered in the first quarter of the Pats’ 17-10 victory
over the Kansas City Chiefs at Gillette Stadium Sunday.

While New England coach Bill Belichick said in his postgame press
conference that he had no update on the status of Brady’s injury, a
source close to the quarterback indicated it involved serious damage to
the knee. That could include a torn anterior cruciate ligament and
perhaps other ligament and cartilage damage.

“It’s bad,” a team source said. “We’re going to have to play without him.”

Brady was hurt as he stepped up in the pocket to make a throw to wideout
Randy Moss. Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard, who was on the ground, lunged
forward and struck Brady’s leg, which buckled as he released the ball.

Brady was helped off the field and was later led down a staircase by
team officials, presumably to undergo tests.

Fourth-year quarterback Matt Cassel, who had thrown just 39 passes in
his career before Sunday, replaced Brady and completed 13 of 18 passes
for 152 yards and a touchdown. Cassel, who backed up Carson Palmer and
Matt Leinart at USC, hasn’t been a starting quarterback since high
school. He won a competition with Matt Gutierrez during the preseason to
retain the job as Brady’s primary backup.

Awful for the league. I really don't dislike Brady, it has always
seemed like he's been on a different level than the Jet teams he
played against.

Why would you like Brady? The guy has zero respect for the Jets and
has made comments of such to the media. I really don't like to see
anyone hurt, but I can't say I am feeling sorry for his pompous ass
either.
Who I do feel sorry for are the good Pat fans like MZ and some others
who post here to talk intelligent football. They are going to have to
watch a pretty avg team the rest of the way.

Gotta say I would like to have seen a Brady/Favre matchup---twice or
more---but now that seems unlikely, period (I don't assume Brett will be
back next year). Forgive me for saying that it does make the season more
interesting in terms of competitive balance---but I wouldn't have wished it
on the guy. Nor do I think the Patriots are done for, as they do have other
great players. Just an observation.

I'm not so sure, Glenn. The Pats are solid even without Brady. They
could be like the Fins, I forget the year, when Griese went down and
Earl Morral stepped in and they went to the Super Bowl. No one expects
Cassel to be a second Brady, but then again, no one expected Morral to
be good enough either. Could be the Pats are that well built. Maybe
not. We'll see, I guess.

If nothing else, we'll all get to see just how good a coach Belichick is
without Brady.

Um..the fact that they won the game scares me.

I actually had flashbacks to when Bledsoe went down, also in game 1.

They only managed 17 points against KC and KC pretty much sucks. They were
also one play from tying it up at the end.
Let me be the first to say, the Jets are a better team than KC is. Farve
alone puts us above them.
The Jets will have a tougher time scoring against NE, but I like our chances
now that it appears the DB problem has been solved. The only weak link out
there is Smith. Somebody needs to call Lynch up and tell him your shot at
getting a ring with NE just went down dramatically.

Because I have been through this already and nobody ever came here to tell
me how bad they felt for us.
When Namaths knees finally went, nobody said "Tough break Glenn, I feel bad
for you"
When VT was out for the year after the fist game of the season, A season
where the Jets were in the AFCCG the year before and we could have gone to
the SB, Nobody said how bad they felt for us. As a matter of fact, our NG
was flooded with trolls dancing on our grave for about three weeks.
Sorry B, you will not see a single tear shed by me.

Difference was Vinny Testaverde sucked moose cock. Tom Brady is the
best player in NFL history. With him they were a 19-0 team. Without
him they will only be able to manage 13-3. Anyone can throw the rock
to Moss. Just do that prayer passes like Favre lobs up there for all
to go for. Moss will get 90% of them. Sure the Patriots just got
weaker, but the Jets still suck shit.

You know, you are right.

He likely gave up guaranteed money for a shot at a ring. I bet he is
speed dialing Mike T right now.

Anything is possible for the Pats but the odds, even with Brady back for
the playoffs just got a lot worse.

I am w/ you on this Johnny. They have good receivers & good RB's.

I don't celebrate injuries, only significant--and insignificant--
losses. (I have torn two ACLs. It's a terrible injury that I wouldn't
wish on anyone. The surgery alone involves a level of pain that most
people can't imagine.)

In the interest of full disclosure, I admit I did find it a rather
funny when Roethlisberger slammed into the fender of a Chrysler, but
that was his own doing. If Brady did something that stupid people
would be right to laugh. What happens on the field isn't funny--ever.

Glenn, it is enough for me to know that when Favre starts slinging the
leather like pizza dough at some point you will swearing at the TV
screen, and I will be somewhere enjoying a cold one with just the
trace of a smile on my face. The Jets might just win the division
this year. And then what happens?

A little early to say that isn't it?

The Pats have 3 capable running backs and a pretty
good defensive head coach. What they lose with Cassel
is Brady's ability to win a close one if they are
behind.

From an objective football standpoint, it will be
really interesting to see how Belichick adjusts
to all of this. I can tell you one thing for sure:
they aren't going to collapse.

Even Brady didn't have a great year in 2002. That didn't make BB a
fraud. Having to have the whole team adjust to Cassel may cost them the
playoffs, but I don't foresee a collapse either. At least they did get a
lot of playing time with him in the pre-season.

The real key is Cassel making the quick decision and not throwing dumb
interceptions.

Considering how crappy the Jets have been, can you blame Brady if he doesn't
sweat having to play them ???

I think I was about 10 years old. I should have sent a telegram.

I wasn't talking about you. I grew up in a family full of Giant fans. They
wouldn't say a word to me when it was evident his career was over.

You all did, in the form of making this NG unreadable.

Pardon me, is someone laughing here?

Right now, I would say anything can happen.

The whole point of this post btw was your attitude for me not pouring my
heart out for a guy that has three rings and is dating the riches supermodel
on the planet. Nobody wants to see anyone injured, especially as bad as Tom
is now, but I don't exactly feel sorry for him either.

They lose a lot more than just that. Brady got a few of your O-linemen to
the Pro Bowl by haveing great pocket presence. Hi ability to slip sacks is
unmatched by 90% of NFL QB's. Also Brady is the best at presnap reads in the
league. I don't see every game he plays, but I can't recall a time he missed
an open WR. Lastly, if you think Casell has the same comand over the O that
Brady has, there is a bridge in Brookly I'd like to talk to you about.
