Sources: Brady out with ACL tear

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is expected to miss the
rest of the 2008 season with what two sources described as a severe
injury to his left knee, suffered in the first quarter of the Pats’
17-10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at Gillette Stadium Sunday.

While New England coach Bill Belichick said in his postgame press
conference that he had no update on the status of Brady’s injury, a
source close to the quarterback indicated it involved serious damage
to the knee. That could include a torn anterior cruciate ligament and
perhaps other ligament and cartilage damage.

“It’s bad,” a team source said. “We’re going to have to play without
him.”

only 5 minutes away from a scoop...

see what happens when you stay away from posting for so long; it takes
you a few snaps to regain your fastball.

I just shed a tear.

Oh well. Sucks for them. If this is true, the Jets' chances of winning
the division just went up dramatically.

That sucks beyond belife. I'm dissapointed that the Jets wont get to play
them with their best player in the line up. Not the same game without Brady

I never want to see any player injured, even a guy like Brady, who I respect as a player,
but think is a pompous arse.
As for it helping us, I think it would help the Bills more than us, as I think they're
better than us right now.

Classy. (And the only chance you had.)

I am not happy, per se. I don't like to see anyone hurt either. But I
can't say I am sad.

As for the Bills, being better than the Jets, I will reserve judgement
for now.

UPDATE: Silver’s report has been updated — the ACL tear is confirmed.

Hey B, When VT tore his achilies, did you feel bad for Jets fan? Did
you say it sucks for football to loose a talent like VT who was
playing all world at the time, or were you happy that your team had a
chance to take the division again?
Personally I am not happy that Brady is hurt, but I am happy that the
Jets now have a shot at the division and that we have the best QB in
the division. I would have really like to have seen Brett vs Brady
next week, but I'll take a win over the Pats with or without Brady if
that 's how the games turns out.

How can that be confirmed considering his MRI isn't until today? I'm
not a doctor, so possibly they can determine these things without the
MRI. Either way, I've already mentally shifted gears as a Pats fan.
Yeah, it sucks really, really bad.

Hey John,
I called my friend Jeff who is a Dr. and he said by doing tests on the knee
(After the numb it that is), they can manipulate the knee to see if there is
lateral movement. If there is, that would indicate a tear to the ACL or MCL.
They can even narrow it down to which one it is. The MRI will just confirm
what they are 90% sure of.
