View Full Version : Predictions - less than 15 hours to go
The Good Poster 09-07-2008, 03:28 AM Still time to make - or change - your prediction any time before kickoff.
So far we have:
Me: 6-10
Fred: 10-6 (so far the most optimistic - by three games)
RDOGuy: 7-9
Nunya Bidnits: 6-9-1 (so far the leader in the gutsiest call category)
Jeff: 3-13 (so far the least optimistic - by one game)
Andre: 4-12
Tarkus: 6-10
Bill: 5-11
Da Blue Guy: 7-9
Michael Johnson: 7-9
Aaron Baugher: 6-10
Grasshopper: 6-10
Two thirds of us are picking either six or seven victories.
Corrections? Modifications? Did I get everyone?
Still time to get in before kickoff. First prize is an all expenses paid
trip to the Super Bowl in Tampa (if the Chiefs go).

The Good Poster 09-07-2008, 05:54 PM So noted, Karl.
I'll stick with my 6-10, but the more I think about it, the more I'm afraid
you and Jeff may be right. This team is no better than last year's team.
Hope I'm wrong. Maybe we can get a couple more wins based on the "easier"
schedule.
If we can keep today's game close for the first 1 1/2 quarters, I'll feel
pretty good. But if we let the Pats score on the opening drive, then go
three and out with a motion penalty thrown in, that will tell us something.

Tarkus 09-07-2008, 09:34 PM What does it tell you that they very nearly sent it into overtime with
mere seconds on the clock? Even with some uncharacteristic very costly
Bowe drops, they had a decent chance of winning the game, right down to
the end.
I'll stick with 6-10 too, but I think people who act like they're last
year's Dolphins are way off. I don't get why people think they should
be worse than last year. Their only significant loss was Allen, while
they've added quite a bit of new talent (albeit most of it young),
including Larry Johnson.
They also have a real OC this year.

Tarkus-- I hear you, but I am a lot more concerned that the offense will
continue to sputter than I am with the defense. Except for a couple of
lapses, the defense played very well, and held a very high powered team to
only 17 points....which I believe was the spread for the game.
There were several times during todays game thta I wish Chan would have
called for a play action fake to LJ on first down, as opposed to the old 3
yrds (more like 2.5) and a cloud of dust. If not for the 22 yard run late,
LJ's day was pretty weak.
The Good Poster 09-07-2008, 09:55 PM Overall I am encouraged. Even without Brady, NE is a very good team -
especially at home. While three points in the first will not win many
football games, the Chiefs must have exceeded the expectations of most. I
just hope they do something about this low scoring offense. Even with a few
wins, that will not sell many tickets.

I have been quiet and must admit that I am very pessimistic when evaluating
the Chiefs possible record. I would really like to believe that the team is
better than last year. I concede that the team has more talent this year,
but also are very young and un-expierenced. I keep looking at the
schedule - where do you think the 6 wins will be? Now, of course - in the
years to come - the Chiefs will be able to field a competitive team. This
year - I would predict a miserble 3 and 13. And I wouldn't be able to pick
a sure win either. My two cents...

Well, if I am thinking positively....... we could go .500 against the
division - or at least 2 out of 3 at home. Then possible victories against
NO, Buff, Miami and Cin. Of course this means they could also start out
0-9.
No, I am not a fan of management, nor am I buying into the current version
of the five year plan. But overall, play today was better than most of last
year.

I don't know. I've never ascribed to that "run down the schedule and
predict the outcome of each game" concept... because more often than
not, the other teams are better (or worse) than last year. Besides...
if Bowe catches one or two of the passes he (uncharacteristically)
dropped today, the Chiefs might have left Foxboro with a W. Would
anybody have predicted that?
I know... woulda, coulda, shoulda. But everybody I spoke to about the
game this week expected the Chiefs to be blown out by the Patriots...
and I can't say I didn't expect it, either! Whatever else is true,
that did NOT happen.
The basis for my prediction is simply that the Chiefs will be somewhat
improved this year. I would have liked to see the OL play better
today (it's hard to tell on TV, but Albert looked befuddled to me...
as we might expect under the circumstances) and I sure didn't expect
Bowe to get the dropsies. I thought Croyle played smart. I thought
the defense played well. Based on today (and of course, one game does
not a season make) they did look somewhat improved over last year.
Da Blue Guy 09-08-2008, 06:33 AM It's hardly uncharacteristic for D-Bowe to have the dropsies. He
dropped plenty last year, especially early. He'll also make some nice
catches.

I thought my 6-9-1 had a small chance yesterday when it looked like there
might be a tie at the end or regulation with both starting QBs out of the
game. Oh well....
Not that I was wanting anything except a tie for the Chiefs. At least nobody
will be tied with me on predictions at the end of the season!

Bowe was the biggest disappointment of the game to me.... like you said, if
he doesn't blow a couple of key catches, its a different game.
Still they could not have fared this well against the Patrio*ts last season.

Right. That's what I thought, too. Of course... I've already said
that you can't assume that each team except yours will be the same as
last year... but given the consistency the Pats have shown in recent
years, you can make that assumption about the Pats better than just
about any other team. Hell... even with with All Universe Tom Brady
out for the season (which is what is now being reported) I still look
for them to contend.

Damn computer anyway.

One only has to look at last year's game in San Diego, to see the
fallacy of such an exercise. Who had that on their "one of four wins"
list? Or for that matter, who had it on their "one of 10 wins" list?
