Hello all - hopefully many of you will have ideas for why my just
purchached, low hour 1997 Sea-Doo XP 787 engine, has locked up. It
sat for at least over a year before purchase, I took it home, battery
was completely dead but after an hour took enough charge to let me
turn over the engine, which spun up easily and I disengaged in less
than two seconds (I just wanted to see that it would spin). No
unusual noises were noted. After replacing stale gas, I took it to
the water to attempt to start, and it was solidly locked (starter
clunked to acknowledge engagement, but no movement what so ever).
Plugs were of course removed - not hydraulically locked. I took it
home, pulled the starter which turns easily, with little to no marking
on the teeth (so it hasn’t been used much at all) - the problem is
that the engine has seized.
My questions to this group is why, and is there any access point where
I can attempt to turn it through? Is the propulsion shaft direct
drive or is there a worm gear somewhere before/after the flywheel? If
not, that shaft won’t budge in either direction. Tried lightly
tapping the cylinder heads through the spark plug holes - no movement
there either. HELP!
