View Full Version : Ewing returned to MSG
Doctor Chen 08-30-2008, 12:08 AM Unfortunately it isn't that dominating center that guarantees second
round in the playoffs year after year, but we got his "junior" - a
trade with the Rockets.
He is said to be like his father defensively: for one he hustles like
crazy, a Ewing-trait. For a SF he rebounds well, plays good D, and
can even block some shots if the opponent is not careful.
However, unfortunately he didn't inherit his father's offense. He has
trouble sinking outside shots with regularity to be an effective SF,
and his inside game is undone by his relatively small size at the
forward position.
So... at best he's going to be a sixth-man type of player with avg.
offense and good defense. At worst he's your 10 minutes. a game
defensive replacement that gives other forwards a breather.
Dan Gaters 08-30-2008, 03:28 AM Twin Towers of Yao Ming and Freddy Weis in Houston?
That's electrifying.

I don't understand how anybody can say anything negative about this
trade. We actually get a young player, a live body out of that
horrible Frederic Weis pick? I wrote that horrible move off a long
time ago and we made something out of nothing for once. We basically
get a talented, young player from a great program with good character
and athleticism for a stiff that the old, old regime picked almost 10
years ago. I mean Weis was too afraid to come to the NBA after being
embarassed by Vince Carter showing his lack of heart. No Jr. is not
his dad, but this kid has heart and even some skills and is more than
a mere publicity stunt. At the least the move gives us additional
flexibility to make more moves and clear extra cap space without
taking a huge loss in the talent department. If he gives us anything
near what Daryl Strawberry's kid did for Phoenix then this is a very
solid, positive move for the Knicks.

I had no idea we even had the rights to Weis still.
I like Ewing Jr.'s game a lot. He pours his heart out on the floor and
is a very smart player who does all the little things. Like Balkman a
bit... but smarter. I'm not sure if he has an NBA career ahead of him
or not though. He has to date surprised with his ability at every
level though and he can jump out of the gym.
Either way, it's a great PR move and has terrific karmic implications.
Ewing for Weis. Two curses removed in one fell swoop.
Is Walsh a divinin' man.

Well, I guess a piece of shit (Ewing Jr.) is better than no pieces of
shit (Weis)

Geez, as if the Knicks would need another "young player", "live body"
to fill this roster. Isaiah, is that you?

Fact: Ewing Jr. avg. 6 ppg for team Georgetown. Not exactly an
offensive force.
Fact: Ewing Jr. plays avg. defense because he has shabby footwork.
Which MAY be able to improve on.
Fact: Ewing Jr. does play his heart out, but unfortunately this isn't
community basketball pick-up game when we give them high-fives for
trying, to survive in the NBA you actually needs to have talent and
produce.
Don't get me wrong, Ewing was my favor Knick, but his son seems to be
living off his father's legacy.
To look on it on the flip side: there IS a reason why the Rocket
rather have "stiff no-good useless Weis" over Ewing Jr, ever consider
that?

Are you a real doctor?? If so your bedside manner needs work. Ewing a
piece of shit? Don't you think that is a bit harsh!

2 points:
1) Your grasp of karmic principles is very weak and that's why you
won't be invited to any BPLs should we choose to have them.
2) I have no idea what points that I made are counterpoint to your
"facts". I love the way he plays but I'm not even sure that it
translates to an NBA game as a 15th man.
That said, he wasn't supposed to make his college team either. The
invite was considered a courtesy to his father's legacy, iirc. So he
gets a shot to make this team...

I am sorry, you are right.
I guess a borderline bench warmer on this team is better than an
invisible body from Europe.

The point being in college he got the courtesy call... but then
absolutely made the most of it. He wasn't the 6th man on G-town this
year for his namesake. His rebounding, guile, and court vision often
led to stops and easy buckets. That team was pretty good with him on
the floor.
I think he'll be overmatched. His shot suuuuucks and he still quite
hasn't figured out the whole coordination thing but I wouldn't bet
against him either. I read a piece yesterday that talked about how
D'Antoni likes to keep hustle guys (scrubs) at the end of the bench so
he can yank the starters when they're slacking off and show them up.
Ewing may make the team for that role.

Guess it's all moot now that he signed in Europe. FWIW I was in
Chen's camp on this one, which rarely happens. I follow the college
game a lot and have no idea why Ewing was even drafted at all. I can
see the invite to camp by the Knicks, but doubt he would have made the
team, or any other NBA team at this point.

I see nothing about this. Did you perhaps get him confused with Ben
Gordon?

We're all in the same camp basically... for me it's basically the
symbolic value of reversing two of the main events that set this
franchise's downward spiral in motion... the Weis pick and the Pat Sr.
trade. It's an intriguing move to make and a nice gesture to the
hardcore fans who have withstood all of the BS since then.
If we get something out of Jr. it's gravy. I doubt it too but I'm
rooting for the guy though because I do like what he brought to the
table at Georgetown. He got his father's love for the game... if not
his skill.

He's only got one trait from his father: hustle and play the guts out.
I guess it'll be fun watching him run up and down the court and give
110% on every play...

Yeah chen it will be a new thing at the garden... I for one would

Doubtful. The Knicks had that player, remember the white guy that
runs up and down, tries to play defense, and rebounds every ball
possible? He sure didn't infect anybody.
Besides, that guy actually has talent (rebounding), Ewing Jr. will
just run up and down like a deer lost in the headlight.

No, I got it confused with Daniel Ewing. I saw a news blurb that says
Ewing signs with Russian team and thought it was Pat Jr.
I wouldn't have confused Ben Gordon. Though Gordon should sign over
there where he can play SG and guard SG that aren't named, Kobe,
Iguodala etc.

Ahhh, that makes sense.

Just joshin' ya Rizzo. That was the rumor out yesterday, anyway.
Apparently threatening to play over there is his only leverage with
the Bulls right now...

Shoot, if I were Gordon I would be looking at Greece and Italy right
now and try to get Josh Childress money to play in a beautiful town.
At least he may be able to defend someone over there (maybe)...
