Hi group,
I'm a recreational player (and not getting any worse). I just upgraded my
racket to the Butterfly Seemiller racket.
I really seem to notice the hollow-like sound when the ball contacts the
racket, especially toward the middle. It almost sounds like I'm playing a
wood block (percussion instrument).
The racket seems to play OK, but I have little else to compare to. I don't
recall such a sound and feel with a less-expensive Derek May racket I
tried...
Does this sound like a normal thing for a racket in the $40 range that I am
simply not used to, or should these rackets make a more "solid" sound?
Thanks for any input.

I'm no expert, but it could possibly be that the rubber sheets are not glued
properly. Does the sound persist on both sides of the racket? Was it
pre-assembled? What rubber is it?
If you want to experience a strange racket feeling, try a balsa racket
sometime.

Seems to be both sides... Preassembled racket, Wakaba rubber, if I recall...
Maybe I'll try Amazon.com for an exchange... just didn't have much to
compare it to, but don't ever recall other "step-up" level rackets sounding
quite so "musical".
thanks for the reply,
