powrwrap 08-22-2008, 04:58 PM I meant to post this yesterday before the road trip started, but we
can still do it.
How do you think the Twins will do on this grueling, inhumane,
tortureous road trip that we've been hearing about for about a month
now?
Also, how will the White Sox do? They are playing a lot of games on
the road at the same time as the Twins.
FYI, here are the schedules:
Sox -- 3 games vs. Tampa Bay, 3 games at Baltimore., off day, 3 games
at Boston, 3 games at Cleveland
Twins -- 4 games at Angels, 3 games at Seattle, 4 games at Oakland,
off day, 3 games at Toronto
I predict:
Sox take 1 vs. T.B, 2 vs. Balt. 1 vs. Boston, 2 vs. Cleveland, total
6-6 on the trip.
Twins take 1 vs. LAA, 2 vs. Seattle, 3 vs. Oakland, 2 vs. Toronto,
total 8-6 on the trip.
This would put the Twins up by 1 1/2 games in the AL Central by Sept.
5th.

That sounds about right to me, give or take. Although, I think the
Twins could actually split this series with the Angels, and Oakland
at the Coliseum is no cakewalk, so they could split that one, too.

Hey, I thought I was the eternal optimist of the group. If the Twins
can go over .500, I will be very happy. I think a sweep at Oakland is
unlikely, adn 2 vs. Toronto may be a bit much, too. But maybe they
can scratch out another one against the Angels. Seattle looks about
right (I hope).
I would think you have the Sox picked pretty well, though it wouldn't
surprise me if they take two from TB (at Chigago, right?).
I would be ril, ril happy if your prediction cam true, but man, this
is a tough couple of weeks.

I think the toughness of this road trip is overrated. Yes, the Angels
should be tough but they aren't playing too well right now. Seattle
and Oakland are nothing to worry about. Toronto has some good pitching
but the Twins shouldn't have to face Roy Halladay.
As to 14 games in 15 days, well, I would think ballplayers would be
used to life on the road. The first 11 games are all on the west coast
(same time zone) so the body clock won't be shocked too bad. These
guys are all used to staying up until 1:00 or 2:00 am and sleeping
until 10 o'clock at home, so what's the big deal on the road?
This trip is really like an average road trip with an extra 3 game
series tacked onto it. I don't see what all the bluster is about.

I agree with you in part. My concern is not that it is too many games
in to few days. My concern is that the twins are a half-game out of
first, and are sporting a not-so-good road record, and that after this
road trip, there aren't a lot of games left in which to make up ground
(in case teh trip goes badly).
Oh well, I see the Twins are now tied with BOS for the wildcard lead.

Yes -- that's huge. I've long ago given up trying to predict how road trips
and home stands play out... too many dynamic variables. I guess I could
shotgun a guess and spray a pretty wide target, but this team has been
really hard to pin down and predict all season long. I'm just enjoying this
season and the bonus of a totally unexpected contending team.
