I refuse get worried over jinxes and curses so if I calculated this
correctly, the magic number for the Cubs as of today is 30. And that's
to win the division. The magic number for the WC, is either 25 or 26.

Still a month to go and I heard that both STL and MIL have 6 games
against Dusty's team who have been emasculated this year and Dusty isn't
the type of guy who tries out the new guys come September -- especially
when he has his favorite player in CF. The Cubs have 5 more against
Cincy. The September schedule will be tough. Six games against Houston
who are on a roll, six against STL and LaRussa's always a tough bastard,
six against MIL, and six against the first place Mets. Most of them
away games.

If the Cubs can get through September without collapsing I think they'll
be well prepared to make it through the first round of the playoffs and
then who knows.

Good guess but since the Brewers can still get to 107 wins it seems
like the magic number to WIN the division would have to be 31.

D'oh. You're right. Here I was trying to calculate this in my head
last night and then found out that mlb.com lists it in their expanded
standings at:
