Tonights running gaffe was just as bad as the other two. And other
four or more if you count his defensive laziness. I hope he learns his
lesson and wonder why Maddon didn't yank him again.
Getting tagged out at second base by the first baseman? Wonder if has
ever happened before.

>>>Tonights running gaffe was just as bad as the other two<<<
it was much worse than just not running out ground balls..
Tonight's slow running cost them an unnecessary third out with two runners
on...

Benching does not seem to do any good or just limited results. Maybe
hitting his wallet might?
Unfortunately the Rays do need his defense in the field with Crawford
out. Maddon is not sure the Balsdelli will return as an every day
player. Gomes has forgotten how to hit. He is only batting .229 in 12
games since his return to the minors. Zobrist is an adequate emergency
fill in. Floyd is a last resort outfielder. Fernando Perez at Durham
has a tendency to strike out to much and only a slightly better
average. He does have speed with 40 SB and caught 12 times. The major
knock against him right now is that he is batting .200 with runners in
scoring position. He needs to improve that. Since he is part of the 40
man roster, look for him to be called up on September first.

Yes I think it has. Teixeira actually made a great play. Smart of him
to trail the play and be in postion to receive a throw from the
outfield.

I am surprised that he did not pay attention to Teixeira as he passed
him? Was he so focused on the outfielder and knowing that he had the
base despite any throw? Very poor judgement.

Upton's problem is simple...he needs to grow up...
the telling point was in his response to being benched a few weeks ago...
when asked by a reporter about getting benched he replied "I just work here"
IMO, this explains everything...BJ has the attitude of many a youngster that
is earning a paycheck (regardless of his Pro athlete status)...and that is
to do as little (work) as possible and keep the job...he does not really see
the big picture yet...this is nothing but immaturity..
he sees his "job" as doing whatever it takes to keep getting his check...he
needs to mature and recognize that by doing more than the minimum to get by
is the ticket to making a contribution that can become part of something
that as a whole is bigger than the individual contributions combined...
Upton+maturity=greatness
