View Full Version : Soriano's showboating
Nice way to turn a double into a single there, Fonzie.
Here's some free advice: Hit the ball. Run like hell. If it's called a
homer, then you can slow down.
He later apologized for standing there watching a home run that wasn't
a home run.

He has done this on many occasions this year, kinda pisses you off when
you see, then he hits a homer and all is forgotten.....

I wish Lou would sit his narrow @SS for
a couple days..... let him stew and get to know that actions like that
will not AND should not be tolerated. Especially in
the BIGS..... Right?

Forgiven to a small degree, perhaps....there are lots of other guys on
the team who hit home runs. Forgotten? No.

You'll get no argument from me. I watched the game yesterday and when
they showed Lou's face all I could think was " Oh, I would SO not want
to be Soriano when he gets called into the office after the game."
Bench him, fine him, whatever. Like the Duke said "Sorry don't get it
done..."
Dave S 08-14-2008, 08:19 PM Considering all the fielding mishaps he had earlier in the season, I
would think that Lou would talk to him about that fluffy hop he takes as
he catches routine flies, also.

Can anyone recall why he went to that hop? I remember something about it
helping him concentrate better on catching the ball---or something like
that. It sure seems like a little league type of thing that a coach would
quickly correct.

The story I saw on it said that he had trouble with fly balls clanking
out of his glove, and somehow the hop helped him concentrate. Weird,
but when he has to uncork a throw there's no hop, so there's probably
no harm done.

He isn't out there for his glove.
If he was a white guy from Idaho you guys would worship him.
That's my opinion and we all know what opinions are like because
everyone has one.
Oh and HR Soriano! Cubs lead 7-2.
'nuff said from Fonzi!
Oh wait that was another meaningless home run just like that other guy
used to hit all the time.

No, it is true. Racism is alive and well. You never here people talk
like that about white guys only dark skin Hispanics.
That's my observation.

Racism may well be alive and well but not in me. If I had made a
racial slur and called his actions typical of Hispanic players, then
your repsonse would have been warranted. Since I merely commented on
his lack of hustle it wasn't justified.
I've also made negative comments about Howry and the last time I
checked he was still white, though not from Idaho. Several others here
have slammed Howry. I'm pretty sure they all know he's white, too.

Excuse me, Bubba. A showboater is a showboater and
a stoneglove is a stoneglove. It doesn't matter the
color of his skin or anything else.
Two of the worst fielding outfielders the Cubs ever
had were Hank Sauer and Dave Kingman. Everybody
knew it and everybody said so.
Soriano's bat is a big asset. But prior to coming to
the NL, he was an infielder and a good one too. He
really does not have the range of the average outfielder.

Defending Big Hank: Don't lump him with Kingman. Hank was slow afoot, but
he was a decent fielder with good fundamentals. More than an adequate left
fielder.

And it's a classic logical fallacy. You observe that racism is alive
and well, which is undeniably true. But then when there is valid
criticism of a black person, you immediately jump to the conclusion
that the critique must be based in race.

Well no, I jump to the conclusion that it is based upon nationality
and ethnic background rather than race. I've observed the same
reactions to other Hispanics and particularly dark skin Hispanics. For
example the silly criticism of Sosa that he only hit meaningless home
runs. Silly because there is no such thing as a meaningless run, all
runs have meaning and affect the game. I feel that the same kind of
anti-Hispanic bias is evident here. Now it is possible that I'm wrong.
But I don't think that I am wholly mistaken.
YMMV.

I still call bullshit. We aren't allowed to find any fault with
someone who has a different color skin than our own? Any fault we
point out is racially motivated?
Plenty of people here, myself included, have slammed Bob Howry for his
failings and he's white.
If Jim Edmonds started dropping easy fly balls because his little hop
caused the ball to bounce off the heel of his glove, like Soriano did
AGAIN this week, I'd bitch. If Reed johnson stood and watched a long
fly ball rather than heading for first at full speed and waiting for
the ump to signal a home run, I'd bitch. Soriano is guilty of
both....repeatedly.
Did you see Lou ripping Ronny Cedeņo for failing to lay down a good
sac bunt the other day? Do you think that had to do with where he was
born, or for the fact that he failed to perform the task properly?
Just because you criticize someone who happens to have dark skin or
speaks with an accent, doesn't mean you're citicizing BECAUSE they
have dark skin.
