View Full Version : knee surgery...Roy's turn

Trail Blazers All-Star guard Brandon Roy will have arthroscopic surgery on
his left knee Thursday morning to repair a torn meniscus, the team announced
Wednesday night.
A magnetic resonance imaging on Tuesday revealed the tear.
A meniscus tear is generally the least severe of knee injuries, but the
Blazers did not want to speculate on Roy's return until after the surgery is
performed by team doctor Don Roberts at the Southwest Washington Regional
Surgery Center in Vancouver, Wash.

Before anybody goes jumping off the Fremont Bridge over the news of Brandon
Roy's knee surgery on Thursday morning, keep this in mind:
Roy is having arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left
knee. When he was a junior at the University of Washington, Roy had the same
procedure done for the same injury on his right knee.
In three weeks he was back on the court, playing in a big-time game against
No. 9-ranked North Carolina State.
Blazers training camp is seven weeks away. Their first preseason game is
eight weeks away. The regular season opener is 11 weeks away. I don't think
Roy and the Blazers are in jeopardy of him missing any games. The only
setback is that Roy will miss out on all the full-court scrimmages the team
holds throughout September, preventing him from developing cohesion with the
likes of newcomers Greg Oden and Jerryd Bayless.
Now, also keep in mind that you never know what doctors might find in a knee
when they go in. Last September, the Blazers didn't expect Oden to require
microfracture knee surgery when he went in. That's why the Blazers are being
so mum about the surgery and Roy's timetable for a return. (General manager
Kevin Pritchard and Roy both declined to be interviewed Wednesday night,
saying they would talk after Thursday morning's surgery).
But that is just a precautionary reminder.
It is believed that the injury is a result of general wear-and-tear and was
not caused by a traumatic event. The tear was revealed after a magnetic
resonance imaging was performed on Tuesday, and surgery was decided upon
after a second opinion was offered on Wednesday.

Keep your fingers crossed, get your rosary beads out, pray to Allah,
God, Buddha or whatever else you may do. Season is on the line in
that operating room.

ROY SURGERY UPDATE: It's over, and it's good news
Posted by Jason Quick, The Oregonian August 14, 2008 09:08AM
Brandon Roy is out of surgery and the news is good.
Roy will need 4-to-6 weeks to recover from Thursday's arthroscopic knee
surgery according to team athletic trainer Jay Jensen. Roy underwent a
20-minute procedure in Vancouver, Wash., during which team physician Don
Roberts removed a piece of cartilage that was causing irritation in Roy's
left knee.
"He will definitely be playing by the time the season starts,'' Jensen said.
Jensen said Roy will be walking without crutches by next week, when he is
expected to return to Portland to begin rehabilitation exercises. The
Blazers open training camp on Sept. 29, and Jensen said he plans on
"protecting" Roy during the practices and preseason games to ensure he is
ready for the team's Oct. 28 opener at the Los Angeles Lakers.
Jensen said there was no specific incident that caused Roy's injury.

Thank GOD. I was having Ron Harper flashbacks for a moment. Glad to
see a rising star will be healthy.

A little humor...
baron davis has tonya hardinged brandon Roy
http://hardwoodparoxysm.blogspot.com/2008/08/baron-davis-has-tonya-hardinged-brandon.html
PORTLAND, Ore. - Los Angeles Clippers guard Baron Davis was seen lurking
around the home of Portland Trailblazers guard Brandon Roy late last
Wednesday night, just hours before it was announced that Roy would undergo
arthroscopic knee surgery.
Multiple bystanders were able to identify Davis at the scene, claiming that
he was actually wearing his Clippers uniform and complied with several
requests for autographs. Witnesses confirmed that Davis was wearing a mask
with a large protruding beard, and was carrying a crowbar. However,
bystander accounts of Davis' departure differ: several claim that Davis fled
from Roy's home on a tandem bicycle with an unidentified passenger, while
one man claims that he saw Davis escape in a white 1993 Ford Bronco. Neither
account has been confirmed. All witnesses do agree that as Davis left Roy's
estate, he screamed "MAKE THE PLAYOFFS NOW, YOU MOTHER [expletive deleted]
SON OF A [expletive deleted] [expletive deleted] HOLE [expletive deleted]
SUCKING [expletive deleted][expletive deleted]!"
Roy averaged 19.1 points and 5.8 assists for the Trailblazers last season.
Official team statements indicate that there is no timetable for Roy's
return from his unexpected knee injury, but signs point to a return before
training camp commences on Sept. 29th. No player has ever been behind
schedule on returning from arthroscopic knee surgery.
