Paddy Waggin 08-13-2008, 07:39 PM Back in the day when Jack was the ruler of WGN......we all were hanging
on his every word....
Then came Harry.... ahh, good ol Harry.
If we could go back and choose one ` or the other.... OR even for
today.... Who would you pick to broadcast the Cubs?
<Harry Creighton NOT included>

Jack Brickhouse hands down.

Ah, the days of Iron Men and Wooden Ships when Harry
Creighton finished a six pack of Hamms Beer before
the exchanging of lineups, was pissing sky blue water
during the fourth inning, and rarely said more than
three words at a time by the seventh.
I can't remember the name of the real dunce who came
after Creighton and before Steve Stone.

As long as they don't steal Hawk Harrelson away from the White Sox....

I don't think so! Vince Lloyd teamed with Brickhouse. Pettit was mostly on
radio when Brickhouse was on TV.
Paddy Waggin 08-14-2008, 04:06 PM Actually <if I may answer my own post>
the best announcer, radio OR TV, was
good ol Jack Quinlen..... for my money when he got teamed with Boudreou
<sp>
they were outstanding.... made me laff all the time.... I would listen
to them two knuckleheads while I sat out in the bleachers and got
bleached..... and er, ah, bombed.... ha
I talked to Brickhouse one time about JQ and he said the very first time
he heard him he knew he was one of the great ones..... and he proved to
be right....
<yeah Brickhouse did talk to me>

Quinlen is a little before my time, but I remember listening to a lot
of games with Vince Lloyd and Lou Boudreau.

While there was a time when Vince and Jack were a team, Vince was
better remembered with Lou Boudreau on the Radio. Pettit did do tv with
Jack in the 60's, but I don't remember how long or exactly when. I do
remember that Pettit was very good, and that he was an even better,
(perhaps one of the best) hockey announcer.

I thought you liked Bert Wilson better. ("Bring your lunch to the ballpark,
and enjoy an afternoon at beautiful Wrigley Field. 25,000 unreserved
grandstand seats go on sale every day. Thursday is Ladies Day. All ladies
admitted to the ballpark free of charge.")
