Why? Because he would rather play for a bunch of fans who don't get dour
on the team and pay for seats no matter how crappy the team is?

-the dour one-

I hope he did it to stick it to Towers. It's starting to look like
someone with the team leaked the news of the waiver action. Some
suspect it may have been an attempt to pressure Giles to accept a
trade to Boston, and waive the no trade clause. There are a lot of joe
average Padre fans out there who think Giles screwed us out of a
potential trade for prospects, ala Phil Nevin to Cincinatti for Ken
Griffey Jr. Some in the local media think the front office is behind
this leak to make Giles look bad. I don't trust Towers, not since he
tried to trade Nevin to a team that was on Nevin's no trade list.
Towers was an idiot for trying it with Nevin, and is an idiot for
trying it again with Giles. Oh, and there is some rumblings that the
commissioners office may look into the news leak about Giles. Nothing
would make me happier then to see this blow up in Towers face.

I find it hard to believe the Sox were willing to give up anybody of any
real value in a trade anyway. It appeared their real goal was to prevent
Giles from going to the Rays or the Angels of LA Who Play in Anaheim.

The Pads goal was to shave more money off the payroll, but I doubt their
ultimate goal is to spend that money on another player. Our team is getting
the well-deserved reputation for being cheaper than Norwegians on holiday.

Go Pads !

Looks to me like Moores is about to blow up the Padres in the San
Diego fans face.
40M payroll next year. Giles will get his 3M and goodbye.
Platooning centerfielders is a failed experiment anyway. Finish the
season with Hairston in right and see if the HGH outfield can play
everyday.
