Interesting that we have two main threads going, one spelling Skip's
last name Caray, and the other spelling it Carey. It's C-A-R-A-Y,
folks. Don't feel bad, though; even though he too had always been a
favorite of mine, that damn spelling always confounded me as well. (And
probably will in the future.)

Under any spelling, he'll not only be missed by many, but I've already
been missing him in recent years, as his workload was reduced due to
health and other reasons. He was the one guy in the booth who I didn't
care if he said something I thought was stupid baseball-wise, because he
was more like watching a game with a drinking buddy to me (even after he
went sober) than an analyst.

You might not get a Christmas card from Colin this year. Heh.

Anyone with an advanced knowledge of the English usage and grammar could
tell he was well educated. He rarely fumbled over his words, and when he
did it was nearly always when wordplay was clearly on his mind and he
mistakenly spoke what he was trying not to say... What was that third
baseman's name again?

More than any other player who ever played for the Braves, I would have
liked to have met Skip. He was and still is more an Atlanta Brave to me
than anyone who wore the uniform on the field.

Interesting note I just read (and I didn't believe it until I dug deeper and
found details on sabr.org)... Skip actually called his first Braves game
while they still played for Milwaukee. He filled in for Mel Allen for a
brief spell after Allen's mother died in 1965, when the Braves had already
announced their move to Atlanta and WSB TV had picked up a few games to
introduce the team to its future home. As Mel would say, how about that.

Don't be silly Colon is far beyond being the type to carry a grudge.
