Paul Pierce was apparently stopped for a traffic violation. He was
handcuffed for some reason (the police said, "He's a big guy.").
Pierce was given field sobriety tests and Breathalyzer tests that
showed that he was not legally drunk, and when all was said and done
the police didn't even give him a ticket!!!
Certainly sounds like DWB to me ...

It, unfortunately, is the being a black man in a nice car in a big city that
gets certain cops attention. The other typical DWB pull over is for being
black where there ain't many blacks. If I hadn't seen it for myself, I
wouldn't think it is/was a prevalent thing. Twice I was with very very good
friends who happen to be black and they got stopped for the sketchiest or
non-existent of reasons.
Once in downtown Boston, my buddy got pulled over for a right turn on red.
The cop claimed there was a "no turn on red" sign. After he got done
hassling my friend for a good 10 minutes, he found nothing and sent us on
our way. We drove around the block to check. There was no sign.
Another time, driving across the country, an OK Statie pulled my friend for
allegedly speeding. We're talking 68, maybe 70 TOPS in a 65 MPH area. NO
ONE get's pulled over for that kind of stuff. The car we were in was a beat
up, mechanically rebuilt VW BEETLE. This was in 1983, so it wasn't the NEW
BEETLE, it was an OLD, ORIGINAL BEETLE. I don't think it made 60 HP. The
OK trooper had a bit more of an attitude than is necessary for a speeding
stop. After getting back in the car, my friend, who is very, very easy
going and soft spoken, swore the cop was trying to provoke him.
I don't doubt that most troopers and cops are good, well meaning,
professionals just doing their job. I've been stopped for legitmately
speeding and been let go with just a warning many times AND, like everyone
else, I do have friends who are cops. There are bad eggs on any police
force and those are the guys that need to be cleaned out.
