Twins fans staying even classier!
(I'm sure Scott was one of them.)

It was really only a few fans that threw their hats onto the field
after Gardy threw his hat (and no, I wasn't one of them).

The ump blew the call when Span was hit by a pitch, Gardy was
rightfully ticked off...and so were the fans.

Throwing crap onto the field was uncalled for, but it really wasn't a
big deal. Ozzie overreacted, as usual.

Great game, though. Nice win for the Twins!

Oh yeah, let's not forget that the Indians pounded the Tigers last
night 9-4, lighting up Verlander (8-11, 4.49 ERA) for 6 runs.

Poor Verlander. He started the season really shaky, then seemed
to be turning things around....now his last two starts have been
pretty terrible. It seems that the Jekyll and Hyde nature of the
Tigers is effecting just about every player on the team. I still
haven't figured out their problem(s) yet. Leyland? Old age? The
bad air quality in Detroit? It's got to be *something*.

To top things off, they've got Inge calling pitches as the primary
catcher now....and Inge isn't even a true catcher. I noticed in
parts of the last couple Tigers games I've seen, that Inge
is a terrible catcher and he's often losing balls in the dirt or
they're bouncing out of his glove. I think he even said at
one point over the last season or two that he didn't want to
be a full time catcher. He's got to be a little irritated right
now with his position on the team. But, at least he gets to
be in the lineup regularly now, and he's a better bat than
some of the old guys. ;-)

There's a few things contributing to all that...pitching, hitting and
managing. There's nothing else left, so it's everything at this point.
There are only a couple of bright spots on the team.

Galarraga is the only bright spot on the pitching staff.

Minor isn't doing too bad, but that's only compared to the rest of Detroit's
pitcher's. Compared to the rest of MLB, he is probably a middle of the pack
guy - not noticeable.

No relievers to speak of. Zumaya was hurt, hasn't really regained his
control. Rodney either. That leaves Todd fucking Jones. Though I haven't
ever liked Jones, he has done the job for the most part this year. Giving
up that homer to the White Sox was the last straw.

Guillen doesn't belong at 3rd...Inge does. Of the 17 errors allowed at 3rd
base this year, 11 of them are charged to Guillen. Guillen allows too many
hits down 3rd base line, whereas Inge stopped most of those. Inge's bat
doesn't compare to anybody on the team though and even Sheffield is an
upgrade in batting over Inge. :-(

Renteria needs to go. He's batting .259 with .308 OBP and .337 SLG. He's
committed 9 of the 12 errors at SS and the only reason he's still there is
Santiago isn't any better fielding wise, though he is a superior offensive
player.

Thames is either a HR or an out (so it seems), and doesn't have as much
range in LF as Joyce. Joyce has better power numbers as Thames, so...why
Thames is still starting is beyond me.

Pudge let a few get behind him too, which I didn't think a catcher of his
status should've let get behind him.

I believe this to be correct.

Who in the fuck have you been watching? Inge is ranked 16th (BA) on the
team, 15th if you don't count Pudge's BA.

Yeah, that guy has a good arm and some decent potential.

Jones is toast. It's amazing to me that he's lasted this long in the
league. It's even more amazing the number of save he had in the
first half with his atrocious pitching stats.

Yes, Guillen doesn't have the range Inge does. Say what you will
about Inge, but he was usually a pretty decent fielder at 3B.

Because he CAN hit the homers occastionally...that's probably
why Leyland keeps giving him a chance.

True, although it seemed to be occurring more this season, and it was
becoming obvious Pudge's heart wasn't with the Tigers anymore.

Did he and Leyland have a falling out or something? I thought he
was one of Leyland's golden ones.

Well, Inge DID say he wanted to be a regular contributor. I guess
he should have been careful what he asked for. ;-)

OK, I could be wrong. It just seems that in several of the Tigers
games I've watched this season, Inge was getting clutch hits or
getting on base more than others. At least that's how it appeared
to me.

I guess he's not a very good bat after all. Bummer. ;-)
