View Full Version : Artest to Rockets... will Kobe demand a trade?

Last off-season Kobe whined and bitched that the Lakers didn't get
Garnett. Now that Artest, who was supposedly the Lakers main target,
is going to a Western Conference opponent, will Kobe throw another
hissy fit?

youre sure no george orwell. not only cant you predict the future
youre not too bright about the past. kobe didnt want garnett to come
here. its a good thing that artest is not going to the lakers. hes
been a cancer on every team hes played on and nothing suggests that
will be any different this year.

the bigger question here is since the celtics wont be able to repeat
as champions will your team try to go out and buy another championship
again? welcome to 1984!

Another? When did the first end?

That's a lie. You're lying.

Oh, in case there's some misunderstanding: I'm calling you a liar.

Yeah, you never want to have 2 cancers on a team. There's always that
competitive thing - who will be the more cancerous. Artest has sure
proven to have some talent in that area, but head to head? I'd bet on
the true Champion of Malignancy, the Tumor King, the cancer that chased
the last Lakers player with any guts to Miami.

> the bigger question here is since the celtics wont be able to repeat

24-20.

I'd quote the final Game 6 score of 132-92, but the first quarter score
of 24-20 is more indicative, doncha think, as LA had already started
packing it in by then. Contrast that to Game 4, where Your World
Champion Celtics, down by 24, fought back and took the series to 3-1, in
what used to be the Laker's house but which they now enter only when the
real owners deign to allow it.

If the Lakers add any new blood to their "team", you better hope it's
someone with some heart, balls, sense of team play,
testosterone...whatever it is that's lacking. Because a team that folds
like that - monumentally, with everything on the line, is just never
going to win it all. Never. The fact that they even made the Finals had
to be some sort of cruel fluke.

How sad Magic and Kareem must have been that day. How disappointed the
likes of Worthy, Baylor, West, Mikan. Was that recent earthquake Wilt?
Rolling over in his grave? At the thought of this once mighty franchise,
once the only serious challenger to the NBA's undisputed best ever, just
bending over and whispering "Do it again, Kevin. Again, Paul. Once more,
Ray. We just don't wanna fight it anymore. Ram it up there again. We'll
still get paid...".....?

Oh well....by all means, please, keep coming around. We enjoy laughing
at you.

but...

trades were made for Garnet and Allen, Posey and House were Free Agents as
were Cassell and Brown. C's starting 5 had 3 players originally drafted by
the C's. They built the team using the resources available, draft picks,
good FA signings and mid season additions. If good FO efforts are buying the
trophy - I will take it.

Boo Freakin' Hoo. This lakerswin2009 cretin posted shit on our NG. I
answered (and by the way, in Actual English rather than in whatever that
sophisticated patois was that he was typing). Don't like it? Stop
stirring me up. The facts are on our side, to whit:

The Celts beat the Lakers soundly, with balance, team play, sheer skill
and boundless heart and soul.

The Lakers, faced with some real adversity for the first time in the
2008 season, folded up in a flurry of blame, excuses, whining and
self-hatred, led by an overrated serial adulterer who thinks he's the
second coming of Jordan but who is in reality Dominique Wilkins with
better PR.

You can call me a "fuckin idiot" (sic) all you want, but the fact is
your pal lakerswin2009 was over on the C's NG woofing, despite the fact
that His Team Lost Big Time To Our Team in a display of sheer choke
possibly unrivaled in NBA history.

Tell me again who's the "fuckin idiot"?

Oh, a suggestion: Look up "Sentence Structure" on that interweb, maybe
take a couple of English courses, before you expect to be taken
seriously on a newsgroup based in one of the centers of Higher Education
in the Western Hemisphere.

I'm sure you wouldn't want to be mistaken for a "fuckin idiot".

i understand the trades and how it all went down. but adding two
premiere players just to win a championship still fits the description
of buying a title. hell the lakers tried to do that when they got
payton and malone and werent quite as lucky. i thought that was a
mistake and even if they would have won with their bs dream team i
would have called them on it too. being a fan doesnt mean you have to

FWIW, I'm a Blazers fan so I don't have a horse in this race, but
lakerswin2009 only showed up in here in the last couple of months. He could
be a regular posting under a new name or he could just be some bandwagoneer
trying to stir things up or he could just be a troll with nothing better to
do. In any case, it's kind of silly to assume everyone who posts in any
particular ng is a pal of others who post there, but maybe that's just me.

Also just my opinion, but leaving the "g" or the apostrophe off "fucking" or
"fuckin'" seems like a pretty weak point to attack, particularly for someone
from such a hallowed center of learning as yourself. I did find your clever
use of "interweb" quite amusing, although with all the political discussions
that go on in the Lakers ng, perhaps "interwebs" would have been a skosh
pithier.

It is good to hear that being the One True Robb is working out so well for
you, of course my sympathies go out to the many other Robb's who must live
each day knowing they are only also-rans in this great race of life. Or
should that be Great Race of Life? Damn, if only I'd matriculated in
Boston.

Go Blazers !

what is the "approved" way to build a team for a championship run? If the

The Celtics saved up their assets and then finally struck when the time was
right. However, you want to classify the Celtics championship run, they
bought a championship much less then the Lakers did during their Shaq led 3
peat. While the Lakers did renounce some assets to get Shaq, they
literally bought him and didn't give up an asset as valuable as Al
Jefferson.

3 of the Celtics starters were drafted by the Celtics and more importantly
the Celtics sacrificed a high lottery pick to get Ray Allen and traded Al
Jefferson plus other assets including first round picks to get KG.

They also got KG to actually sign a reasonable extension for a player of his
ability.

Instead of "buying" a championship, it is more accurate to simply state that
the Celtics wisely sacrificed some of their future for a championship before
Pierce got too old and clearly benefitted by "tanking".

Without their tanking during parts of the 2006-7 season -- and I hardly
think the Celtics were alone in their tanking -- the Celtics in all
likelihood wouldn't have gotten Ray Allen and still had assets left to
pursue KG. And without Ray Allen, the Celtics wouldn't have won the
championship even if the team did add KG.

that is funny -- I meant the poster's view. seems to think HOW a
championship team is built matters.

Yes, really. Haven't we all realized by now that you add good players
to a team for the sake of /fashion/?

When Malone and Payton came to the Lakers, everyone expected it to be
for one year, they'd win a championship that year, and it'd be done.
When Allen and Garnett came to the Celtics, everyone expected that
they'd take at least a year to learn to play together, that the team
would build, and that we'd have a chance to win in years two or three.

We got lucky. But that doesn't change the fact that Ainge was
assembling a team that'd last as long as possible, rather than putting
together a one year shot at the title.

Not since the Cavs added Clyde Frazier.

Was Frenchy Fuqua ever traded? Those platform shoes with live goldfish in
them were da bomb.
