It's a good article all around, but here's the, er, "nugget":

"I blogged this back in the spring that I heard the Knicks were close
to moving Randolph to the Denver Nuggets right before the deadline. It
wasn't a done deal, but it was very, very close. But a source with
knowledge of the talks said while Glen Grunwald had handled most of
the work, Isiah Thomas jumped in at the 11th hour and started
tinkering with the deal. The Nuggets were already on the verge of
civil war about the trade so Isiah's last-minute meddling caused the
whole thing to shut down. The way it was told to me, Grunwald was
frustrated."

That can't be true, he was fired!
I must be imagining it. Let's wait and see. It's just a formality. And so
on.

Just back from the Yankee game tonight, the 9th inning was frustrating
enough, so I don't need to work myself up again. But, for the love of God,
why any sane person would want to have anything to do with this vermin is
really beyond me. This guy has been doing this crap consistently for at
least the five years he's been in NY. Why on earth? Why?

OK, I'm calm.

Well, if you read the article you see that it refers to the trading
deadline last winter, where his "fired" status was not yet even
debatable.

Yep. As I mentioned in my subsequent post, this stuff has been going on for
the last five years. And as long as Isiah Lord Thomas III is around, he'll
find a way to muck up stuff. Let's hope Gallinari is not an example of that.

You also gotta note that it would have been pretty hilarious (to non
Knick fans) if the draft pick Nene that Layden traded away as a
"throwaway part" in the deal for Antonio McDyess in 2002 then came
back to the Knicks in a trade six years later, now at eight figures
stretching well into the next decade instead of a rookie contract, all
the while with cancer of the balls *and* injured.

Layden to Thomas. One of the most distinguishably perfect handoffs in
the history of professional sports. Thanks, Jimmy D. Nice one.
