What was the point of trading Typo for two guys who are going to get cut?
If this is supposed to get us all jacked about our new FO, I have to say
it's a bit disappointing.

Again glenn it is all about money ONLY!!!! Getting rid of 2 million me
thinks... Someone correct me if I am wrong with the figures. Knicks
President is trying to get rid of money on the books so that by 2010
we will hopefully be under the cap enough to actually lure some of
these great fre agents over to the big apple.....

Cutting Typo for Cap space is a joke. It's like pissing on a forest fire.

So - did they basically give Balkman away or dump him for almost nothing
(if they cut the 2 players)
I am not sorry to see him go
but I am a bit dissapointed also

Gotta start somewhere. After the luxury tax it's $4M for a guy whom
the coach probably told the GM wasn't going to play after watching him
in summer league. They've got three or four other small forwards and
Typo wasn't terribly special at anything. They also had one player
too many on the roster.

Like I said earlier, it is simply a money decision. He was not going
to get playing time and as noah said it is about 4 million including
salary tax and you have got to start somewhere. Obviously the coach
did not want him or... he would still be here.

Getting rid of cap money. $2 million may not seem much but come 2010
that may be the difference between Lebron-Knicks or loser-Knicks.

Seriously, do you think Balkman has any value after Isaiah himself
demoted him to cheerleader status and simply didn't develop him last
season?

What he said... Also, Walsh probably found that other GMs no longer
viewed him as a deal sweetener... i.e. he couldn't be used to shed
other cap space.

I liked Balk but there's no use holding on to a guy that you can't
use.

Don't hold your breath for any LeBron Knicks. But sanity and some
fiscal responsibility have to start somewhere. Cultivating
intelligent and strategic cap management isn't a bad thing, even if it
doesn't change the world with one move. Paying $4M for a guy you
don't need and won't use isn't smart. Plus they got a pick out of it.

Yep, a damn near useless one, but it is a pick.

Can't be much more useless than a $4M benchwarmer.
