View Full Version : More on Jessica Hardy

Clenbuterol is a primarily a stimulant and only a weak anabolic, if
anything. Hardy tested negative the day she won the breaststroke and
again the day she came in 2nd in the 50 free. In between those days,
she tested positive on the day she swam the 100 free, finishing
fourth. I saw Hardy's interviews, just as I saw those of Michelle
Smith, Marion Jones, and Floyd Landis. Jones and Landis came across
as guilty as charged. Hardy comes across as totally innocent. It's
crazy to dope with a stimulant. To take enough to do some good it has
to be taken acutely, within a couple of hours of competition, and, if
taken, the athlete will always have huge amounts of it on board when
tested, post competition. No one serious about doping dopes with these
drugs. They dope with anabolic steroids, which build muscle and aid
recovery during heavy training and can be discontinued long before
competition with lasting effect at a time when levels are
undetectable. Or, in the case of endurance sports (not swimming, but
land endurance sports), EPO is used to build up red cell volume. Red
cells have a life span of 120 days, and the effect of EPO doping
persists for a long time after EPO is discontinued.

Bottom line, I think that Hardy was either sabotaged intentionally or
else inadvertently ingested a contaminated "supplement."

isn't there something analogous to a decay time or time constant
or whatever in dope testing? IOW, how long does Clenbuterol stay
resident in the body before being washed away? because, given this
lady's series of fairly tightly spaced tests, it seems to me that
ya gotta wonder what's the more reasonable conclusion: cheating or
a false positive?

I agree, and I'm on the enemy side of the Pacific.
