Strange outcome. Army says, yeah you and the kicker go for the draft and IF
you get drafted we'll let you work at the recruit. ctr. Guess what, Caleb
was drafted and now he was drafted agian: back in the army. Hey, I know the
guy signed up and has no problem with it. Neither do I. But talk about
crazy- one day away from an NFL contract and now- off to Iraq or Afghanistan
with you. I saw a good piece on him and the kicker. Campbell hit like a
freight train, ton of bricks- think Kronwall. Great, huge hits. With his
size I'm not sure it would translate to the NFL but it was a great piece.

This really should be no surprise. When I was in the Army (late 60's-
early 70's) recruiters would promise you the world, give you a signing
bonus then sign you up to 3 or 4 years. Once you signed on the dotted
line your ass belonged to the Army and they would do whatever they
wanted with you no matter what the recruiter promised.

A lot of guys signed up, for say duty in Germany, and ended up in Viet
Nam. Guys who couldn't see straight without coke bottle glasses would
sign up to be clerks and end up grunts. The Army did crack down on
unscrupulous recruiters but it wasn't all the recruiters doing and the
core practice of promising one thing and then doing something else to
a soldier remains.

We can only hope Caleb survives his 2 years of active duty with all
his senses and body parts intact so that he might return to try and
make the team. I'm sure we'll still need a good safety in two years.
