Been out of action for over 10 years and I was a fair player (1800
level) with the old 38mm ball. So I joined a local club and started
playing with the new ball and rules, but still using my old blades and
rubbers (some still brand new).
I noticed that I wasn't able to control the speed or spin as well with
my old equipment, even after regaining most of my "form" and eye
coordination. My game was (and still is) one of heavy underspin
pushes and heavy top-spin backhand loops, and an average forehand
loop. Now most of my forehand loops and pushes go off the end of the
table and I seem to pop up too many server returns.
I am using TSP-730 (balck sticky rubber with dark blue sponge) on BH
and Butterfly Tackiness drive on FH, on a Butterfly Exalter blade, and
I don't seem to be able to control the speed or spin like I used to
with the smaller ball.
Could the larger 40mm ball account for this?
If so, what equipment might you suggest I should try? I favor control
and spin over speed.
Anyone has experience using long-pips with the 40mm ball?
In general, in order to maintain the same level of speed/spin/control
one had with the 38mm ball, would one need to get a faster or slower
blade? A thinner or thicker sponge? A stickier or more flexible top
sheet? .
Thanks in advance for any replies.
