After a lifetime of swimming I have just developed an allergy to
chlorine so bad I have to get out in 20 minutes. Does someone on the
group have such a problem and what do you do about it besides showering?
I have a hunch about why this developed although it was refuted by the
allergist. I've just begun getting shots for all the other allergies
(everything except animals) and I suspect those shots have messed up
everything and are causing a little pile of new allergies. Of course I'm
stopping the shots regardless of the reassurance. Soooo, cream of some
sort? Antihistamine?

Allergy shots are a scam, for the most part. I know many people who
started them and then developed new problems, such as yours. You are
wise to stop them. The only thing they definitely do help is the
fattening of the allergist's bank account.

Follow-up: It's been two weeks since the doctor reassured me they were
harmless and 13 days since I assured him I'd find out by stopping. I am
improving quickly. You may very well be right about the scam, but I have
no doubt they are risky. Aside from allergies, I have an enviable immune
system and I will never tamper with it again.

Perhaps you should pay attention to that chlorine allergy in and of
itself. Some research shows it's carcinogenic. See if you can find a
salt water pool. Though it still generates chlorine from the salt,
it's at a much lower level.
