Former Yankees skipper Ralph Houk was known as players manager. Graig
Nettles book said that some managers wanted players working out on
their three day break. Ralph would call his team together just before
the break got started. Ralph would say things like "god dammit, I
don't wanna see any of you sons of bitches for 3 days, I don't care
what you do, I dont care where you go, you can leave the country if
you want. Just get outta my sight for 3 days". They broke the mold for
managers like this. Happy All-Star break everyone!!!

P.S. We get a 3 day break from the Padres.

Looks like everyone is taking more than a 3 day break from the Padres,
what with the lack of activity in this NG.

It's not easy maintaining any level of engagement with this team anymore. I
had season tix from '84-'92 & continued to follow the team after moving to
the PacNW, but as you so accurately point out in your "outlook" post, there
just isn't any reason to think our ownership has any intention of trying to
improve what is arguably the worst team in the league.

AFAIC, as long as the weather is good I'll be playing outside rather than
watching/listening to the Pads somnambulate through another game.

Go Pads !
