These are all nice guys but they are not components of a winning ball club.
All of them can be replaced by rookies from the Jays' farm system.
Such an overhaul of the club does not mean instant success, of course, but
at least the change would give the fans some future hope by putting the club
on a different course from that of the last 14 years.

Players to be cut: Matt Stairs, Shannon Stewart, John MacDonald, David
Eckstein, Marco Scutaro, Brad Wilkerson, Greg Zaun, Kevin Mench, Lyle
Overbay,
R. Barajas, A.J. Burnett, and B.J. Ryan.

Joe Inglett should be kept for his outstanding speed, and Scot Rolan for his
excellent glove. Roland's poor hitting may be just a temporary phenomenon.

Minor league players that can be added immediatley are speedster Wayne
Lydon, an outfielder with Syracuse hitting .287, catcher Curtis Thigpen who
is strong
defensively and can run, pitcher David Purcey who has more strikeouts per
inning pitched, a low era of .276 and has given up fewer hits than innings
pitched.

From AA New Hampshire the Jays should bring up middle infielder Scott
Campbell with an OBP of over .400, catcher J.P Arencibia, and pitcher Brett
Cecil. Some of these youngsters would be very green but at least they would
give Jays fans a break from watching the same old crew of losers and rejects
from
other MLB teams who will never be able to do the job.

Even if the Jays with these changes end up in the basement of the American
League East in 08, the team would be moving in the right direction for the
future in going with youth. Currently it is going nowhere.
